Model: Matchbox Cadillac CTS Coupe

Line: 2011 First Editions 10-pack Exclusive

Where to get it: It pops up occasionally on ebay

Why it’s in the collection: Matchbox did something unique in 2010 and 2011.  They produced two Cadillac CTS models in back-to-back years, and both were CTS outliers.

We are so used to that Cadillac look now, but I remember how different the CTS looked from other cars when it was released.  So unique in fact that one was used in one of the Matrix sequels.  It since went through a few updates, but the most unique looks definitely belonged to the Wagon and Coupe.  And, incidentally, Matchbox did them both.

For me, the CTS Wagon is one of the coolest cars anyone has ever done in the last decade.  More specifically, the CTS-V.  Matchbox did the standard Wagon, but I won’t complain.  The same goes for the Coupe.  The CTS-V Coupe wins, but the standard version is more “Matchbox-y”

And of all the CTS Coupe releases Matchbox has done, none will ever top this black beauty.  And it is all about the gold rims.  Regular chrome or even black or grey rims would look fine, but the gold rims on this one make this model shine.  Add to that some of the prettiest black paint on a toy car and you have one of my favorite Matchbox releases ever.

This one is not easy to get.  Your best bet is finding one listed on its own on ebay or elsewhere.

If you want to get the whole 10-pack, good luck.  Between that and a few others in the pack, including the Mitsu Evo with Australian Police livery, this one will be expensive.

But if you do, it’s worth it.

  1. This model is strange for me, because I’m not a fan of the real CTS coupe (I think it looks extremely ungainly from the rear), but this Matchbox release of it is one of my all-time favorites, for all the reasons listed. The paint is PERFECT, the tampo application is a master-class in accuracy, and the wheels set the whole thing off so nicely.

I was lucky enough to grab this 10-pack when it was in stores all those years ago, and I’m so glad I did. The CTS and Miura alone made it well worth the money, but the Mustang, Panamera and Lancer all sweetened the deal considerably. I’m really glad you gave this CTS the Daily treatment, John, it’s well deserved.
