Model: Matchbox ’71 Nissan Skyline 2000GT-X

Line: 2017 Matchbox Gathering of Friends Dinner Exclusive (1 of 75 early registrant variant)

Where to get it:  Here is Albuquerque at the Dinner, or later on eBay.

Why it’s in the collection: Because all Gathering models go in the collection, especially if they are Skylines.

The 2017 Matchbox Gathering of Friends is officially underway, and I am here for the 10th year in a row.  It is truly one of my favorite events of the year.  I am excited to see Matchbox has in store for 2018 (I will stream the whole presentation on Facebook Live), and even more excited to hang out with some old friends.

The models are bonus, and they never disappoint.  The model photographed here is the Early Registrant variation, for the first 75 people who signed up for the Gathering back in January.  You can tell by the chrome base.  The rest have a black base.

My guess is attendees will be happy with either variant.  Matchbox goes all out on the Gathering models, and this one is no exception.  And they go even goes further with a matching livery on the VW Transporter Dealer Model (more on that tomorrow).

  2. Lovely model. And do let us know what time you’ll be live streaming on Facebook. I will be sure to tune in.

  3. This is one of the best models I have seen! Let me just say, JDM is not my passion but csrs are and this is perfect right down to the all black wheels. The Tempos perfect! Congrats to all who get these. Can’t wait to see 2018 new models, have to say great to be excited about new releases from MBX!

  4. Hello, I was just wondering how you sort you collection. Ive seen your post about “jammer” cases and I have been using those to hold my collection for a while, but I am curious on whether you sort your cars by brand (Majorette), or make (Nissan), or history (race cars, hot rods, etc.) Thank you!
