What an odd mix for the latest Tomica arrival comprises of a Red Box Tomica construction vehicle and the pair of worthy Hakosuka from Tomica Premium. FYI, the No.25 Hitachi Loading Shovel is supposed to be released together with the Red Box Toyota Corolla Touring but because of the delay on the March Release No.19 Suzuki Katana hence the arrangement.
No.25 Hitachi Loading Shovel EX8000-7
The EX8000-7 by Hitachi Construction Machinery is one of the world largest hydraulic excavator. It weights more than 800 tons cater for mining purposes and able to remove more than 70 tons in a single load which explain the huge difference in scale between the EX8000-7 at 1/300 compared with other castings.
The EX8000-7 is also a heavy casting with the rotating body in diecast and the shovel in ABS. The arm of the shovel is functional but I guess due to cost the “bucket” itself is in fixed position which is a downside for me.
What really impresses me are the working rubber tracks which surprisingly rolls smoothly which are able to remove to reveal the nimble wheelset.
No.34 Nissan Skyline GT-R (KPGC10) With Commemoration Version
I love collecting Japanese Nostalgic Car (JNC) castings and collected a handful over the years especially Skyline GT-R. Many 1/1 I never seen in person and also my plan to visit the Nissan Heritage Collection located in Kanagawa Japan when the pandemic is over.
The latest 1/61 ‘Box Skyline’ “Hakosuka” looks incredible when out of the package. I almost mistook it as a Tomica Limited Vintage and Tomica did an outstanding job when come to “realism” crafting for this 1970 2-door casting. It’s like holding a piece of GT-R history back in the 70s without sitting inside the GT-R.
Both GT-R come in regular silver and commemorative off-white body color which is accurate to the actual GT-R, realistic wheelsets and alsos opening doors without compromising the realism. What stands out for me is Tomica attention to details on the front grille together with the classic GT-R emblem with plastic insert headlights close to TLV standards.
If you love JDM nostalgic cars the Tomica Premium “Hakosuka” is the the perfect casting for you.
