Model: Hot Wheels ’15 Land Rover Defender Double Cab

Line: 2018 Basic New Models

Where to find it:  It will hit with 2018 B Cases, and was just found in Nov 4th Kmart cases.

Why it’s in the collection: Because a Defender that looks like that will always be in my collection.  Land Rover seems to go with Matchbox, but you won’t hear a complaint from if Hot Wheels wants to do one, just like you won’t hear a complaint from me if Matchbox wants to do a Datsun 510 rally car.

The Defender Double Cab seems to grab the attention of just about any car-minded person.  It doesn’t matter what you specific interest is, it seems you will drop all to praise the Defender.  But I’m right there with everyone.

And based on the response to this model, the masses feel that Hot Wheels nailed this one.  It’s playful, thick stance, the tan color, plus the racing decals.  I don’t see myself collecting every release of this one, unless they all look as good as this one.

  1. It does look a bit chunky, but I’m still very excited for this one. I’ll always be interested in pretty much any Land Rover casting, from the blue or orange brand, and I think they nailed the deco on this one. One thing I really wish they’d done on this is a trailer hitch…initial pictures that weren’t as clear as these looked like it had one, so I was disappointed to see that it actually doesn’t. Regardless, great model and I can’t wait to get one.

  2. Thanks so much for doing these pictures. This is my next most anticipated model. They really did knock this one out of the park with scale, color choice, deco, wheels, stance, mods and ride height. I really hope I find one for me and my Land Rover driving friend. Different subject. Samuel Ace? Thumb’s up? Where’d you go?

  3. This was one of the bigger surprises in the early 2018 rumor mill. We we’re all waiting for some more JDM, maybe a new Mercedes, and other models that are long overdue for a release, then this pops up on T-hunted. What’s amazing is that not a lot of us expected a friggin’ Land Rover, of all things, to end up on HW. That would look at home in Matchbox, but this one’s a-OK, too.

Plus, there were Defenders on Spectre. With the new off-road Real Rider out, it would be a good time to release a movie-accurate variant.

    1. It wouldn’t surprise me if they did a Spectre-faithful rendition of this model for a premium lineup at some point…they’ve already given the Astons the premium treatment (DB5, & DB11) as well as the Lotus Esprit submarine. I’d love to add the Defender to that group. Fingers crossed

  4. If there exists a perfect casting in the $1 1:64 segment, its this one. There are a couple things I would like differently (don’t we all?) but damn, they really nailed this one! The strongest contender for best 2018 basic new model (I know I said that with the DR30 and R33 but I hadn’t seen the Defender then).

  5. I shall be buying one of these as soon as I find one in the UK, because, A: It’s a Land Rover and I just have to have it because of that, and B: A double cab Land Rover is an unusual choice for a model as most are station wagons. I shall definitely be on the look out for one of these.
