Lamley Awards 2021: The Best of Tarmac Works Global64 Tournament begins now.

Welcome to the 2021 Lamley Awards!

This will be the most comprehensive yet, with the standard Best and World of Hot Wheels/Matchbox Polls continuing, but with so much good stuff coming from so many other brands, it is time to get them into the mix.

So to kick off the 2021 Lamley Awards, we go to Tarmac Works for the first Instagram Tournament.

Here is what to do. Instead of a poll, I feel we will get better engagement with an tournament on my IG Stories. So, watch the video below where seeding is announced, check out the photos of the models, and go to @lamleygroup on Instagram and get voting.

Instagram Stories last for 24 hours, so each round will last exactly that. The first round for TW will actually be a play-in, with the Land Rover Defender 90 facing off against the 110. The winner will enter the tournament as the 8th seed, battling the other Global64 models this week until we have a winner.

Should be pretty easy, you just have to make sure you vote.

And this is only the beginning. The tentative schedule for this year’s categories and features:

  • 11/28 –
    • Tarmac Works Tournament
    • Hot Wheels Super Poll
    • Hot Wheels TH Poll
  • 12/5 –
    • Auto World Tournament
    • Matchbox Licensed New Model Poll
    • Matchbox Licensed Opening Parts New Model Poll
  • 12/12 –
    • Mini GT Tournament
    • Hot Wheels Licensed New Model Poll
    • Hot Wheels Licensed Premium New Model Poll
  • 12/19 –
    • Tomica Limited Vintage Tournament
    • HW Car Culture Tournament
    • HW RLC Model Poll
  • 12/26 –
    • 64 Best Models Royal Rumble Tournament
  • 1/1 –
    • Results

These are the models I collect, and I think will generate the most engagement. But yes, there are plenty of other brands, and the Lamley Team is making sure all are represented in the 64-car Royal Rumble, and each Lamley Contributor will be doing their Best of lists from the many other 1/64 brands out there. Like I said, comprehensive.

So on with Tarmac Works. I chose the Global64 line, as that is what I collect and I think the line that is most compatible with collectors that read and watch Lamley. I understand if you disagree, but this is only the beginning of Global64, with many big things to come. A great line from Tarmac Works. See you on Instagram.

  1. TW is still a brutal proposition for me, but at the same time, they’ve been an undeniable force in premium 1/64, filling in the niche that Kyosho left behin with aplomb. I can’t say they’re most improved — that’s Majorette — but I reckon one of the three best castings overall will come from Tarmac Works.

  2. Aha, you have a new sponsor: Instagram?
Why not the “good old” poll like before? It worked very well.
With this move you exclude all the audience that doesn’t have and doesn’t want to have an Instagram-Account.
In my opinion not a smart move.

    1. The polls I’ve always done are still here. I wanted to add this year and for the non-Mattel brands doing the Instagram tournaments allows more folks to see them.
