Why I’m featuring it: I’m not a big JDM fanboy and don’t especially collect tuner cars, but when I was at the SEMA Show in 2019, the place was full of modified GR Supras, and they looked great. You can read more about them in a piece I wrote here! Several of them have since been turned into 1:64-scale models, including the Hot Wheels GReddy drift car, the Mini GT Pandem Advan version and this one, HKS’s Street Concept Supra.

I loved this car when I saw it at the show, so I decided to grab the Mini GT miniature from Tokyo Station.

Mini GT already produced a previous HKS SEMA Show car, the Civic Type-R Time Attack. In fact, the sample was on the booth when I was there in 2019!

This Supra is a nice complement to that earlier release. I love the understated gunmetal paint, the precise white wheels, the rear detail and the weight.

There’s something about those HKS cyan, magenta and purple flashes that looks great in model form. It’s another winner from Mini GT.

For our comparison model this time I dug out a Matchbox A80/fourth-gen Supra. This 1996 Toy Fair model from the end of the Tyco era is gaudy but lovable with its Premiere wheels and Get in the Fast Lane graphics.
