Lamley Daily: Tomica Cadillac Escalade Limo

Model: Tomica Cadillac Escalade

Release: Long Tomica #136

eBay link: Tomica Cadillac Escalade Limo

Why I’m featuring it: The lack of metal in modern ‘diecast’ toys is a common complaint among collectors, but no one could accuse this Tomica Escalade of skimping on the zamak. The 1:79-scale behemoth measures a lengthy 13.5cm/5in, more than justifying its place in the Long Tomica range.

Finished in white, this Cadillac was part of the regular range for seven years, from December 2012 to the end of 2019. Three special issues were made, too.

The front headlamps are separate plastic parts and the rear doors open. There are seats in the front but as far as I can tell, there’s no jacuzzi in the back! The central rivet post is cleverly hidden behind a blacked-out window section.

I have only two other stretch limos in my collection, both childhood 300-Series Majorettes in 1:58 scale from the late-1980s and early-90s: a Mercedes and another Cadillac, a Brougham (the casting just says ‘Limousine’) in full Crocodile Dundee spec, complete with trunk-mounted ‘boomerang’. It’s a cool trio!
