Lamley Daily: Kyosho Lotus Esprit Turbo

Model: Lotus Esprit Turbo

Release: Kyosho Lotus Minicar Series

Why I am featuring it: I’ve always had some affection for the Lotus Esprit. It would probably be in my top 5 childhood favorite cars list. As I think of the other cars that would be on the list I come up with the Lamborghini Countach, Porsche 959, Jaguar XJ220 and the Ferrari Testarossa. There are others that I liked too but those were the first to come to mind. Out of those 5 cars I think the Lotus is the best looking. It’s angular look is why thought the car was so cool when I was young.

As with all my childhood favorite cars, I am still fond of them today.

In my opinion, this Kyosho is the best Lotus Esprit you can get in 1/64. It is a model of the Esprit Turbo which was the most aggressive looking iteration of the Esprit. Kyosho made it in 6 different colors (orange, white, black, red, blue, and silver). I have this one and another in red. As far as I am concerned this one in silver is the one to get.

  1. I also like the Esprit. I am a fan pf the later models with the aero add ons. I have the Kyoshos and they are well done. I am not sure anyone else gave it the love Kyosho did. White or blue gets my vote.

  2. I too would have to list the Lotus Esprit as one of my childhood favorites. I don’t have any Kyoshos in my collection, just the various Hot Wheels releases of the Esprit, plus one pristine black and gold survivor from my childhood with pop up headlights from Tomica. I have to say this Kyosho looks stunning. I wouldn’t have thought I liked the Esprit in silver and gold, but this looks really good. I may have to look into adding one of these to my collection. I’m not all that familiar with Kyosho though. Are these die cast or resin? Do they have a rolling chassis?
