A couple of weeks ago I featured the brand new Hot Wheels ’17 Ford GT Super Treasure Hunt. I mentioned that while I thought it was a must-have model, and easily one of my favorites of 2016, as Supers go it wasn’t great.
I should clarify what I meant. Is it disappointing? No way!! The Ford GT Super is a beautiful model, simple in its execution. Honestly my most anticipated Super of the year, and notably the first official new casting to be a Super at the same time.
Having said all that, if you remove the casting and significance, and judge the model solely on its merits as a Super, it doesn’t live up to others. The Drifsta, however, TOTALLY does.
This is where you do reverse thinking from the Ford GT. Licensed Supers are always going to get more love than generics, including from me. (Although as far as generics go Jun’s Drifsta is a very clever model.)
But look at it as a Super. Upgraded color? Yes. Interesting color? Hell yes. Upgraded tampos? Yep. A full design on the top compared to the basic. And do the wheels stand out? Uh, yes. The Drifsta marks the first time the 4-spoke “hippari” wheels have been on a Super, and it definitely won’t be the last.
The model looks totally different than its basic counterpart. The colors, tampos, and wheels highlight what is a very good-looking model. It’s a drift car. It looks like a drift car.
So how do you judge a Super? There is no right way. On one end you can judge them based on the castings used, while on the other you can go solely with execution and upgrades. Most of us are in the middle, and ultimately it comes down to “Are you excited about the model or not?”
I was most excited about the Ford GT, but the execution on the Drifsta makes a must-have as well…
Though I understand WHY, it still bothers me that the tires, while rubber, don't have treads.
Sorry, this casting will not be making it into my collection. Its just not that appealing. IMO.

Wow, I'm stunned. I will give you that they made a Drifsta that is likely the best looking a Drifsta will ever be. But saying it's a super done right when compared to the GT borders on insanity imho. The Drifsta is cheap, mostly plastic, low detail, fantasy casting that appeals to 5 year olds to race around the sidewalk and dirt tracks in sandboxes. To be even remotely “super” it needs flashy paint, awesome wheels, great tampoos. The GT on the other hand borders on art. Nice quality, high detail casting of a real car… no a super car. It's breathtaking with its simple clean look. It is a almost perfect super. The GT super is really everything most of us collect toy cars for. Please don't let Mattel continue fancy up stuff that is not super instead of making true supers.

I, for one, totally agree with you. This is one of my favorite fantasy model of the past two years and definitely one of the best Supers of 2016.
Once again a madarchod like John is trying to hype up an ugly casting/super I bet wheelcollectors has a bunch so they need lame group to hype them up to scalp them

I'm 100% with you on this, John. The Drifsta looks stunning, the execution was amazing. One may argue that he doesn't like the casting, there's nothing wrong with that. Now, denying that the production value on this is through the roof…you have to be blind or something.
Here's a hot take: the New Ford GT, as a Mainline model, sucks. They didn't paint the entire model right there below the buttresses, which is a glaring QC error, and the coloration in the $TH is more like blue-violet, and not even fixing the problem (you would think the tarted-up version would paint the entire model but NOPE). It only got fixed in the much more expensive Entertainment version, but that one has stripes.
Don't hold that GT as some sort of God casting, because it isn't. The $TH Driftsta did its job and did it wonderfully. The GT was only 8/10ths.

that's exactly what this Rundi ka bacha does. One of his Bahen Chod friends need a boost in sells this Maadher chod “show cases” the casting and boom sells go up. this ass clone no longer gives 2 shits about the hobby all he sees is the money. I wish Mattel could see past his shit!
