2015 Lamley Awards: What was the Best Hot Wheels Super Treasure Hunt of 2015?

It is that time again…

Hot Wheels has moved into 2016, and that means it is time to look back on the year that was, and decide the Best & Worst of 2015.  Let’s start with Super Treasure Hunts.

If you are not familiar with the Lamley Awards, this is something we do at the end of every year.  We do a series of polls, and readers will cast their vote in several categories, including Best & Worst Super TH, Best & Worst New Model, and Model of the Year.  After all the polls are done, we will present the Reader’s Choice, along with the Lamley Choice.  And as previous Lamley Awards have proven, you cannot always predict what models will win.

So let’s start with Best Super TH.  We will withhold any comments about the group of 15, other to say this was a strong year for Super Treasure Hunts, so it will be hard to pick just one.

The poll is below, along with pics of all 15 below that.  And feel free to leave comments on why you chose what you chose.  You never know who is reading…

The poll will be open until Friday, so vote, and be sure have your collector friends vote as well.

Enjoy!

  1. The Ferrari was my pick for the best super. It is a very clean and well done th and a great send off for the hot wheels Ferrari era. The un licensed th (or any at all) do not interest me. Mr Lambert stated that the mainline out shined the super but the gloss black with those wheels are a killer combination.the wheels on the red didn't suit as well as these. I just wish th and supers weren't as rare for I never found one wild in 10 years of collecting.

  2. Most Surprisingly Good $uper: Rrroadster. The Mastretta is *this* close, but that front end did it in.

    Best Mustang $uper 2015: the 302.

My actual pick: If I can vote two, then Mooneyes and 599XX. But I can't, so I go with the Fezza. Ferrari didn't bow out with a whimper, but a bang, and the Super 599XX proved it. The red LaFerrari, the very last new 1:1 model from Maranello to grace the HW Mainline, meanwhile, is the icing on the cake.

2016 in $TH also looks to come out as darn stellar, and that's just half of them!

Hmm… gotta wonder why there hasn't been a regular DMC-12, and why that didn't get a ZAMAC release. It's pretty much perfect–no need for a clear/gloss coat, just leave it unpainted.

And speaking of ZAMAC, who wants a ZAMAC $TH?

  5. The Supra would be my pick. Now the 599XX probably would've gotten my number one if I had ever found one, but since I haven't, wouldn't be fair to judge it.
The Supra is a really clean cast, the mismatching colored rims and the stance of the thing really proves how well Hotwheels has done with the JDM cars. I just wish STHs are a bit more common, not by too much, but a bit more. I've only been able to find 4 STHs this year so far

  6. Looking at the poll so far, all seems to be what I expected. My year has ended with only finding two this year which is pretty chill. But my main vote goes to the Kool Kombie. It is such an awesome model with alot of decals that excite the car up even more, yet are well organized to look professional. This year of supers was very well chosen and very colorful. Well played.

  7. well there has been a regular normal mainline DMC-12. Or are you asking why there hasn't been a regular thunt or zamac release? that would be a cool idea and only time will tell if that would come out. But both a thunt and zamac into one DMC-12 casting is highly impossible considering that it has never been done with any other hot wheels car. But a cool idea nevertheless.

Your last question though I take two ways. Either would it be cool to have a zamac $th come out? Sure but once again likley impossible for the same reasons a regular thunt zamac would be impossible. But maybe the closest thing would be one of those event where you buy 20 walmart cars that you trade in for a special walmart car that has always seemed to come out in zamac; and also comes out as the DMC-12 model. Thats clearly not a super but hey, rubber wheels!!1

Or are you asking if anyone want a ZAMAC $TH because you are an ebay seller who sells what you claim to be ZAMAC $TH even though it really is a zamac car with a wheel swap. Thats not a Super Treasure Hunt or a Regular Treasure Hunt but a Custom! Sorry if I seem rude but its what ive always wanted to say to all those pesky sellers on ebay that claim to have a thunt or super thunt when it clearly is just a wheel swap which makes it a custom. Nothing special there, so many other sellers do the same same thing and expect alot 😛

  8. The Ferrari and the Mustang Boss 302 are both fabulous. But it is the Mustang that wins it for me. The casting itself is a gem, the deco is really nice and crisp, the colour stands out and the Goodyear tyres are the final cherry on top of the cake. As for the 599XX, I'm not a fan of this car (and I know its irrelevant to this contest) but it looks a bit dull compared to the Boss 302. So, Boss 302 it is!

  9. In order to participate in the poll, it would be helpful to be able to look at them and i don´t mean to look at them at a photo only. But since i haven´t found any, no vote from me.

  10. Top 3:
Dodge Van–Gorgeous deco and a cool casting, classic and timeless tampos.
Mustang Boss–Great looking casting with cool wheels, only let down by the lumpy spoiler
Kool Kombi–because chrome steelies always look fantastic

  11. '69 Mustang Boss 302 for me; 2nd is the '65 Mustang Fastback (bummer that its paint & deco is practically identical to the regular release). These are the only “Must Have” $upers for me this year, & I managed to trade for both.

  12. Way too difficult to choose a winner, but I had to go with the Supra by an inch over the Ferrari. I just started collecting in July and was lucky enough to score 4 Supras and I think the excitement I got from finding that one by far exceeded the excitement from finding the others (from K to 2016 A). It's just a beautiful casting and the deco and wheels match perfectly. I like the Ferrari but idk for me the wheels were missing a little something. Can't pinpoint it but since I like the 2012 version better I decided to vote Supra. But the Kombi, Corolla, Mustangs, Delorean.. so many amazing supers this year!

  13. I voted for the DMC Delorean because I found one on the pegs at Target. It's pretty cool since it does have the retro paint scheme from as seen on the mainline version and the same style wheels from the retro entertainment model.
I purchased a Boss 302, but I think the DMC looks better in your hand. I REALLY want that Toyota Off-road Super!

  14. I never find $TH's, but I found the Toyota Off-Road Truck at Walmart the other day. So happy, since I've been wanting one. Having said that, for me, VW Kool Kombi is my favorite $TH, perhaps of all-time. OK, I'm not 100% about that, but from that list, easily #1 for me.

  15. Nonono about the re-seller thing (I'm too poor to even buy!). Here's how I envisioned it: The regular version in the mainline will have had mainline mesh wheels and metalflake grey paint. The $TH ZAMAC I'm talking about will have had RR wire wheels a surface that looks like the one seen here:
    http://image1.redbull.com/rbcom/010/2015-09-04/1331745415468_2/0010/1/1500/1000/2/uci-world-champs-2015-loic-bruni-rides-during-practice.jpg
HW has actually released the DeLorean unpainted and with RR's for the Boulevard line. Now all it needs is a TH tampo and an even greater level of polish.

  16. Here in Brazil I found the AE-86, 77 Dodge Van and the Superbird (first time I get 3 supers in less than a year, 8 in all since 2010), but the best is the 302 Boss.

  17. Christopher there are no secrets. There are ways to check if a shipment is coming, but still it depends on when the shipment is out in the floor. Most people that find multiple Supers have to be a little more obsessed about finding them than the average collector. They go out most nights looking, hit multiple stores, and make sure they are at stores like Target right at open. The fun of finding a Super for us at Lamley is all about the random find. Pursuing Supers isn't fun, but we have no qualms with those that do.

  18. Thank you so much Mr Lambert.I admit I am a bit obsessed with finding supers and check stores often. I try to get shipping information but it leads me to finding only cool mainlines. I did buy my first of only two supers on eBay and setting that Ferrari free. Hopefully 2016 will be my year

  19. Chris there are some secrets, but it's all good to each his own. My methods have yielded me much success with very little work, so I'll continue to use them and collect the supers for 2016. 🙂 Best of luck to you as well! The random finds are definitely some of the best feeling ones. 😉
