Some weeks are just overran with one type of news and this week was definitely a Ferrari week. So this edition will be heavy on the Ferrari diecast, but there’s a few non-Ferrari items in the mix as well.

- Ferrari dominates the diecast world
The number one story this week was definitely this morning’s Hot Wheels Ferrari line-up announcement. It was such a breaking story that not only did I do a noon write-up on the release, John/Lamley Group also posted several social media blurbs and photos about the drop.
I highly recommend checking out the noon article as it has a full write-up AND all the car details straight from Mattel:

2. The Hot Wheels x Ferrari Heritage set drops and then sells out
The first official HWs Ferrari release with the renewed license was the two-car Heritage set that was released via the Creations site this morning. The set came with a modern 499p race car and the throwback 312 P race car fitted with an excellent pair of NEO wheels.

As soon as the set’s $100 price point was leaked last week it caused a lot of stir in the collector-verse — but even at it’s triple-digit price, it sold out in about an hour and a half. Not bad for make that hasn’t been with the brand since the early 2010s. I imagine that it will only appreciate in price, but only time will tell.
John also dropped a great video showing the set in detail, so if you missed out this is a great way to get a glimpse of the action:
3. RLC takes a poll
This past week the RLC sent out a poll to members asking “How important is die-cast packaging to You?” — which is actually a really nice ask. We all have our various complaints about RLC releases and how we prefer our cars to be packaged (on-card, acrylic case etc.) so to see HWs reaching out and asking collectors is pretty refreshing.

4. Greenlight is getting ah…interesting
Greenlight has been making some interesting licensing agreements lately (see last week’s 5-Pack for more on that) and this latest one has us wondering what is going on over there in Indiana.
It’s licensing for…..drumroll please…………….Killer Klowns from Outer Space.

While I have full faith in GL to drop some cool releases with these new licenses, it would be nice to see them get more mainstream licenses from better known franchises (the original Halloween Haddonfield Ford Wagon and ’74 Monaco police cars would be rad) that they would really do well with. We’ll see what they do with these licenses before passing any more judgement and hope they have some tricks up their sleeves to really knock these new releases out of the park.
5. RLC and Elite cars coming next week
For the second full week of April we are getting both an RLC and an Elite 64 release.
The RLC drop is the Porsche 959 in Gulf colors (RLC membership required) and the Elite is another hauler, a Scania Tractor Trailer. Both will probably be pretty popular, but our eye’s are on the Scania as the previous Freightliner release was wildly successful and was one of the few latest Elite 64 releases that sold out the same day it was released.

The In-House Party: the Weekly Lamley Drops
Lamley dropped the Ferrari video above plus a great throwback video on the Hot Wheels Steering Rigs:
@championdjk dropped a video featuring 1/43rd Hot Wheels cars of new and old:
And @doomusrlc covers a ton of the 2011 Hot Wheels Garage releases:

While I was bummed I missed out on the hot wheels 2-pack, i did not really have $100 to drop on a whim on it.
I’m looking forward more to the mainlines and (regular) premiums anyway 🙂
