I’m here at the Convention, and if you are reading this on Thursday night, there is a whole lot of people filing into the LAX Marriott Ballroom to celebrate 50 years of Hot Wheels.
There is of course a Dinner Model, and it was appropriately designed by the great Larry Wood, for this occasion. There is no better way to celebrate the brand. And the new Steam Punk Truck just screams Larry Wood.
Sadly, when I got the model to preview, I didn’t know the Dinner was celebrating 50 Years of Hot Wheels, as opposed to Larry himself, like the card says, but still. At least you can see the cool model. And yes, it goes beautifully with the Turbine Time.

Maybe Larry will talk about it tonight, but I don’t think anyone familiar with the history of brand would mistake who made it. It’s a beaut, and it’s the exclusive for tonight’s dinner.

Another casting that the collector world won’t see without deep pockets! Where dose the everyday diehard get exclusives? Makes absolutely no sense why the guys doing the real foot work can’t get this stuff without digging deep! Great casting but just irritates the hell out of me.
I don’t know about that, I picked one up for what it cost for a packet of cigarettes and a cartoon of beer .
I agree…I’m sweating 3 or 4 times a week at local stores to find….nothing, and that’s just mainline. It’s hard work this game, and whether others like it or not, there is a great divide between regular collectors like me and the ill defined “insiders”. ..and yes I spend heaps on fleabay, with huge shipping costs from the US. I’m just hoping like hell the second tranche of the 50th FAVORITES makes it’s way to stores down under. Here’s hoping.
Meh. Steampunk is kinda over and this design looks more like a holiday decoration than a cool old truck.
I like it a lot. Especially since it will be carded.
