I’m not going to show the Super Treasure Hunt on this post. That will come in a Super Showcase later.
There is a reason. All the Super will do is distract you. You’ll get that weird Super Fever that we collectors get. Supers are Supers, and collectors lap them up, not matter what they are. So, for your own good, that comes later. What you need to do is look at this:
Right!?!? Who needs a Super!?! Definitely a bonus, but if this debuted as is it would still be all the talk. Obviously it helps that the RS 6 Avant is one of the coolest cars around. Wagons are cool no matter what, and when it comes to sport wagons nothing looks better than the RS 6.
But Hot Wheels nailed it too. Everything is right one, from its stance to rear to front. The RS 6 is mean, and so is its mini-me.
Ryu Asada worked on the RS 6, and he was most surely qualified. He created the Matchbox RS 6 Avant back in 2006, and it remains a favorite. (The casting returns in 2018, so be ready.). This one will surely join it in the upper pantheon of Lamley faves. And yes, a MBX v HW feature is coming.
For now, just concentrate on the model. Super or no Super, this one is a major highlight of 2018. I’m gonna have a very hard time picking the R30 or R33 over this one as Best Basic New Model. I’ll figure that out when I get there.
Yes, this RS6 is a cool car but Matchbox did the better casting in my opinion. I’m not knocking this HW version too much I will hopefully pick one up but I won’t be breaking my neck to get it, the cheap looking wheels let it down for me.
There is only one other new model that come close to this in my opinion. The BMW M2. Both highly detailed (for $1 price). I was so happy and satisfied when I got the M2 in hand and the same goes for the RS6. It’s not something I expect from Hot Wheels but I’m glad they did it. Everyone expects Hot Wheels to do Skylines and Mustangs, but not the RS6 Avant. And that’s why its in my top 3 new models for 2018.
Both the M2 and the RS6 were left-field picks largely because some people would think this is something Matchbox will do: stock performance cars with next to no modifications. And yet, even with the decision to not use plastic mesh for the grilles, they nailed the bodywork, one that can make premium diecast take a second look. Indeed, these, along with the Cadillac ATS-V.R, are right up there as some of the best models in a stellar year of cheap toy cars.

This indeed is a star casting. But I wait for more neutral colors, for an understated feel. Nogaro Grey, brown, or white would suit this.

This is a great successor to the original Matchbox Audi RS6 Avant back in 2006. It only makes sense that the designer of the original comes out and decides to make the newest one. That’s why I’m so fortunate to have that very first one from Matchbox in the signature metallic steel blue. Got it off of eBay for less than 10 bucks a couple years ago!
Glad I got when I could because they’re either not listed online anymore or if they are, they’re typically in the $40-50 range! I just looked it up today out of curiosity and there’s only one first edition listed for $37.00. The others are the yellow version from 2010 that are loose and in played-with condition.
And I’m so glad to hear that the Matchbox version is making a comeback after an eight year hiatus! I’ve always wanted to see this casting come back alongside the R8! Like many have said, this is a good time to be a collector, as long as the distribution improves!
The HW Audi RS6 Avant is cool and good looking. Not a fan of the wheels and color though I wish they would’ve made it black. I wish HW also would bring back the VERY cool Cadillac CTS V wagon in base line, Super TH and as a Car Culture Line. Then I also hope they would make a blacked out version of the Cadillac CTS v wagon
2018’s new licensed castings have been ridiculously good.
What a beautiful car! I’m so glad Hot Wheels decided to do this one even though it’s not typical of their model choices. I’d love to see them tackle the Mercedes-AMG E63 Wagon next! How about a Jaguar XFR-S Wagon?
