A look at the fantastic HW Exotics 5-pack

Car Meet was great, HW Exotics is too.

In the past, some of the Exotics 5-packs, essentially made to replace the yearly Ferrari 5-pack, have yielded some gems and some duds.  Not this pack.  Here is a look:

  1. Papaya Orange is the classic McLaren color. It would be nice if an Aston Martin was in Gulf colors considering the years it raced at LeMans in those colors.

  2. They should totally do a “GT Racers” 5-pack with this line-up:

Mercedes-AMG GT3 (GruppeM Racing or Black Falcon-inspired livery)
SRT Viper GTS-R (throwback red/white/blue Oreca livery )
2016 Ford GT Race (throwback ’66 GT40 livery)
Cadillac ATS-V.R (a blue recolor of the current livery being used)
Renault RS01 (McGregor, not the Conor one)

    or, alternatively:

Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo (Konrad Motorsport teal)
Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 (retooled, Bilstein livery)
Audi R8 LMS (Phoenix Racing black)
    Acura NSX GT3 (Michael Shank)
BMW Z4 GT3 (new model, different from the Z4 Motorsport car that became a Super; Team Need For Speed)

You can pretty much take this to Car Culture and it would be a cool thing to have.

  3. McLaren is my favorite in this set but I like the Jag and the Lamborghini also. I reckon the Aston would grow on me but I’d pass on the Renault.

  4. The McLaren and Jag are easily the 2 top picks of the bunch. Is that a matte white used on the F1? It’s hard to tell in the video. The XJ220 casting may be aging, but the presentation here is perfect. Love the British Racing Green and I love the Leaper logo on the side.

I like the matte gold on the Sesto Elemento, but the red elements are a bit jarring. The Aston Martin looks good in blue and I might have even been able to live with the contrasting garish red chrome wheels (though I’d prefer black or gray), but the white stripes kind of ruin it for me. Still, the dog of the bunch has got to be the Renault. I love this casting, but this color scheme and no headlight tampo is not too appealing.

  5. 5 packs are really dominant here in Oz and I think they are rather being forced on the consumer, with higher sales volume – 5 cars per purchase as against the 1 or 2 people usually purchase in the Mainline. This also means the Mainline stocking has gone down hill….fast – terrible last 6 months for the basics collector. Toys ‘R Us are pretending they aren’t in any trouble in Australia by pegging old 2017 stock. Since the US bankruptcy there has been no new 2018 stock and TRU are hoping the majority of purchasers don’t realise it’s old stock.

….and back to this 5 pack…a winner but the CAR MEET GASSER still takes the prize.
