What Drag Bus? The go-to Hot Wheels VW Buses are now the Kool Kombi and T2 Pickup. (And that T1 Panel eventually.)

The Kool Kombi gets hoarded.  It is the first model to get snagged.  It isn’t that familiar with the pegs because it never hangs out that long on them.

The VW T2 Pickup gets hoarded.  It is the first model to get snagged.  It isn’t that familiar with the pegs because it never hangs out that long on them.

And they are hitting the pegs at the same time in Batch N.  (Along with a Datsun Wagon, and a Nissan GT-R, and a Hakosuka Skyline.  Yikes.).  That is one collector-crazed duo:

And it is impossible not to like either of them.  The Drag Bus has been the signature Hot Wheels VW for years.  I think these are taking the mantle.  (T1 Panel too, but we need to see it in a range OTHER than Pop Culture.  Hopefully that day is coming.)

The Kool Kombi has already established its dominance.  Starting with the Toy Fair, and then on to the RLC, to Super TH-dom, a Convention model, and on and on, this is a must-have Hot Wheel.

We have a Target exclusive coming, and we need to see a Zamac.  But it surely has a long run in front of it.

And the T2 is new, but you know we will see this EVERYWHERE in the coming years.

Put them all together, and wowzers.  How can you not collect this one?

  1. Awesome Volkswagen kool kombi and Volkswagen T2 pickup truck collection you have congrats thumbs up. I like and I love both of them thumbs up. I will be on the hunt for both new one’s thumbs up.

  2. If they are both stocked at the same time, then one or the other is the first one to be snagged, lol… Even if one reaches with both hands, the chances of coincidental grabs is very small.
I actually hadn’t liked the Kool Kombi when it was first released. But, now that we have many to choose from, I have bellied up to the model over time.
I wouldn’t grab it first, though. It’s just another cartoon for me. I have to say, if it had an arm coming out of the roof with a hand fisting a stick Ed Roth style, my attention would be off the charts…

  3. I agree with Danny, I wasn’t too big a fan of the Kool Kombi at first, but I’ve warmed to it. As was mentioned, it doesn’t hang for long, so I only have some of the releases, but I’m hoping to find the new one, it looks sharp. Same with the pickup, I was lucky to have snagged the debut. Looking forward to hunting for these.

  4. I hadn’t really paid much attention to the Kool Kombi before this year, so didn’t even realize older ones existed. I did see the turquoise woody KK, but ultimately passed because I need to be selective in which ones I take home. I would like a T2 however, preferably the first release. I really dig that tan with red, white and black deco. No luck finding one so far, but both waves it has been released in have been scarce around these parts.

Didn’t Matchbox also release a VW van in its Best Of the World line earlier this year? Never found any of those either.
