Variation Alert: Hot Wheels Datsun Fairlady 2000 with PR5 wheels.

A bit ago I reported on Hot Wheels Batch G hitting Walmarts now.  While you are digging through the bins for Zamacs and Super Treasure Hunts, but this on your list as well.

Lamley Reader Eric Fancher reported this find at his local Walmart:

Look closely.  Those aren’t the deep dish steelies that we have been so excited about on this model.  Those are PR5 wheels.  Sure, the new DDS wheels are far better, but a wheel variation is a wheel variation, and this is a good one.

Eric noted that the PR5 varis are sporting a J50 date stamp on the base, while the standard versions have J51.  That doesn’t mean that all the J50 will have the variation, but it could mean at some point during that production week the PR5 wheels were mixed in because of a shortage or something similar.  Whatever it was, a little gain for us collectors.

Let me know if you have any luck.  I will be looking.

  1. Well, I'm not into wheel variations, and in this case, as I already have the cream one, which I prefer, I'm grabbing the green ONLY if it comes with the steel wheels. I hope my country still gets the old lots, because distribution here is horrible.
