Here is your first look at the 2017 Matchbox Subaru Impreza WRX STI Police…

Matchbox has thrown another little holiday preview our way, this time in the form of the brand new for 2017 Subaru Impreza WRX STI Police.

It might seem odd to have another Impreza Police this soon after Matchbox did an older version a few years ago, but in my view the more they do these models the better.  This release compliments the older STI nicely, and the deco matches the UK-imspired livery of a previous version of the Mitsu Evo X.

This new Subaru looks good completed, especially with front and side tempos, but I will be interested to see if from other angles.  There was some concern that the body was a little stocky and the clearance was a little too high.  I guess we will find out soon.

For now, what do you think?

  1. I thought they weren't going to do the light bar (it looks a bit ugly). But nevermind, it looks great! Happy to have another WRX in the line-up. It looks well done! Matchbox business as usual.

P.S if Matchbox are still debating on the light bar, I would prefer a stock version (my opinion).

  2. The light bar is too large for non-starters.

Does it really cost too much to have a handful of separate light bars that can be fitted to any model in the range, as opposed to huge holes cut in the roof that look really, really awful?

  3. Looks good, livery similar to a previous generation Impreza STi hatch that I used to regularly see on duty on the M6 in Cumbria here in the UK…a classic Subaru wagon or XT/SVX coupe would be nice in the future…

  4. Pile on the bad light bar comments here. Since the switch from added on lights, all of the ones look like blobs. Just look at how nice the comparison models are.

The casting otherwise looks good. I am glad to see the return of the B pillar. Making it part of the window never made sense.

  5. With the last Subaru Impreza WRX STI matchbox made, the 06-07 version dubbed the “Hawkeye” or “Pig-Nose”. It was absolutely stunning, Matchbox did it right. I have both the white and silver versions with me. It would have been better if it had road versions as well like in WRC Blue or Obsidian Black. But what disappoints me is that this new model is again another police car. Why can't it be a regular street version. The same goes for the previous models such as the Lamborghini Gallardo, BMW M5 and the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X. Although these models depict real-life liveries such as Italian, German, British and Australian liveries but it would really be great if they got us a civilian version. One thing's for sure. I'll be passing up on this one.
