It is not something I do that often, especially between brands like Hot Wheels and Kyosho. But this time is different. Both brands released their 1/64 replicas of the Lamborghini Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo within days of each other, and it just seems right to put them together.
And this isn’t a comparison to show how much one is better than the other. Quite the contrary, this is to show how damn awesome both of these models are. You might instantly lean towards the Kyosho and all of its detail, from its red and white trim to its real Pertamina livery (Shout out to my Indonesian friends!). But don’t sell the Hot Wheels short. You can’t play with the Kyosho, you surely can with the Hot Wheels, and it is a lot closer to the Kyosho in detail than you might think. It is a BRILLIANT Hot Wheels casting.
So really, there is no reason to pick a winner. I am just glad I have both.
You can get both too. The Hot Wheels is obviously coming to a store near you as part of the P Case, but is available now at Wheel Collectors. The Kyosho is part of the new Lamborghini Asterion Huracán 6 Car Set, which available now at Japan Booster

And yeah, you should have both. Racing models like the Huracán and Bentley Continental GT3 seem to be Kyosho’s strong suit, and even though I am not much of a racing guy, I LOVE collecting them.
And the Hot Wheels is an easy addition to my permanent collection as well. Lamborghini is always a little hit and miss for me, but I have a soft spot for the smaller Lambos, from the Gallardo to Sesto Elemento to now the Huracán. Thankfully Hot Wheels has replicated all of them, and I have the most stock versions of each in the collection.

That Kyosho looks lovely! Here's a question I'm hoping Kyosho collectors can answer: do the wheels roll? I've been told by a couple of sources that they don't and I don't want to shell out the premium price for their models if the wheels don't actually roll.
hi, Justin! I'm a Japanese collector! Well, I have to say it depends on the models. Wheels on the race cars, super cars, and those with low body height don't roll well. Normal street cars and the open wheelers have rolling wheels, but the shafts aren't as tough as those of HW. Please keep in mind that the edging parts (rear wings, mirrors, etc) are pretty easy to come off and their cars aren't suitable for playing 😀
This reminds me of your retrospective in that comparison you did between Kyosho and HW Mainline versions of the LaFerrari. Hot Wheels did the F70 justice just as well as Kyosho did for about 5 or 6 times less money.
As for these two… Mattel did exceedingly well with the Huracan Super Trofeo for its price point. It shows. About the only thing I would graft from the Kyosho and in transplant to the HW is the rear wing and rear details, but otherwise, the casting goes far above reasonable.
I'll be damned, and so is everybody, if this doesn't go into the top 3 in this year's Lamley Awards. This car more than deserves to be there.
Obviously the Kyosho is just a tad better, but for one buck you cannot complain about the Hot Wheels version either. It's just so good! I'll be looking forward to adding the Super Trofeo with my street Huracans.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought that the Sesto Elemento only came in that grey carbon fiber so wouldn't that one from Hot Wheels be more stock.
