Case Report: Opening a 2016 Hot Wheels International L Case…

Hot Wheels 2016 Batch L at Wheel Collectors

So after this there are four more cases, and 2016 is done.  DONE!

It always seems like a surprise, but we are right on schedule.  Hobby dealers tend to get cases earlier than most retail stores, so considering that, we will be into summer when these hit the stores.  The new year for Hot Wheels starts around October/November so that makes sense.  So yeah, we are in the home stretch.

So yes, Wheel Collectors just got Batch L, and you can see everything at their eBay store:

This is a good case.  You can judge a case on how good it is based on the ratio of cars you are interested in (usually licensed) vs the number you aren’t (usually unlicensed) if you want, but that isn’t really a great way to do it.  We tend to get after Matchbox for that ratio, but it is far better than Hot Wheels’.  There are a lot more fantasy models in a Hot Wheels case, so the way to judge a case is on how excited you are about certain models in the case.

For this one?  I am excited about quite a few.  But I will let the Case Report show you.  As always, Matt & Matt and the gang at Wheel Collectors picked one random case and documented its opening 3-by-3.

Here we go:

  1. Wonder how disappointed some collectors will be that the Night Burner is a Treasure Hunt car again this year. but I'm looking forward to the Honda and Acura that are new in this case.

  2. That one surprised and disappointed me too.

A few here I'm interested in, but not a ton. The Sesto Elemento, The red WRX and the Black Greenwood Vette. Not bad cars in there, just not what I collect.

  3. I can see TWO Super TH opportunities here (Boom Box, which isn't much, and Z4, whose livery is really rather good IMO). Otherwise, let's just say that the best is yet to come.

  4. I already have the yellow Lotus & the blue 76 Union Ford Torino Talladega, but I think they're holdovers from the previous case.

I'm most excited about the Escort, which looked pretty good in red (still haven't found it anywhere) but the Castrol livery looks best on a white background.
