The Hot Wheels 2017 Acura NSX: Big Blue strikes again with another blue beauty…

This week’s features on Lamley are brought to you by the color blue:

Great pair eh?

The 2016 Hot Wheels H Case is a good one, most notably because of the two beauties above.  The Mustang has been covered, now on to the NSX.

The Acura is sneaky great.  At first you might think that there is nothing sneaky about it.  The casting looks fantastic.  More detailed than the Concept (pictured below), with Y5 wheels that look work better than I thought they would (take a gander at the real car), but there is even more.

Acura emphasized the intakes.  So did Hot Wheels.  Acura created a C pillar that actually is separated from the window.  So did Hot Wheels.  I didn’t do a great job of capturing it, because I just discovered it after photographing the model, but look closely at this pic:

Window-space-C pillar.  And it’s more significant than it looks here.  A little detail that brings major kudos to the Hot Wheels design team.  And that is only part of the fun.  The front intakes and grill are super detailed.  So is the rear.  There is a lot of attention paid to the angles and stance, which are clearly a major emphasis for Acura.

Of the two blues, the Mustang has a major wow-factor.  Every angle surprises, and its monster looks demand attention.  The Acura doesn’t punch you in the face, and I could even get into a conversation on whether or not the new NSX is a worthy successor to its predecessor.  But the Hot Wheels replica is a stunner.

There really have been some memorable castings from Hot Wheels this year.  Not only the choices, but the execution.  There have been some innovative ideas and some major attention to detail.  Tons of talent on the design team, and we are definitely benefitting…

  1. I beg to differ on the worthy successor bit for the new Acura. I clearly remember when the original Acura NSX came out. It was swoopy and insanely fast looking. But it wasnt Exotic Car Cool looking. We likend it to an Asian Corvette. Not a Ferarri or Lamborghini. It was nearly an under the radar coupe from a company trying something new. Under the radar as in exotic car buyers wanted Euro spec race cars. Japanese cars were still coming into their own. Given the choice, buyers gravitated to flashy well known marques. Most magazine articles practically begged buyers to take a second look.
    My point…
This new concept follows that early concept. It isnt as flashy as say the Huracan, or the Ferarri LaFerarri. It looks to be of similar proportions to the Audi R8. It looks compentent. With history now behind Acura, this car fits the bill as the cool new kid on the block ready to duke it out with Paganini and Koenisegg. It however looks to retain slow parkinglot drivability like the original making it a sweet option for those who cannot afford Euro Spec Go Fast Super cars.
    Worthy successor? Nailed it.

  3. I was and still am just as satisfied with my '12 NSX Concepts, but I want one of these too. I want one.

Hey, I'm just glad that Honda/Acura decided to make another NSX, period, and for a sports car lover like me, it's better than the alternative, which is: nothing!

    Looks good to me!

  4. These two make a great combination. I woukd have loved to see that c pillar idea on the Ferrari 599.

Now it's time for Hot Wheels to make a Then and Now set of Jaguar XJ13/CX75!
