So what looks better on a BMW? Signature orange? Alpine white? Blue?
Hard to say, but Hot Wheels will at least give us enough examples to at least try to come up with an answer.
Pics have emerged of the latest version of the E36, and we must say it looks pretty darn nice in blue with BMW racing deco:
We have had some issues with this casting, mainly with its stance and length, but at least based on this pic, blue might help enhance it a bit. Then again the angle it is shot at is probably its best angle. Why don’t I just reserve judgement until I have it in hand.

Orange would be the best color, but it's as you've said; this casting is plagued with design issues.

I dont see this as being that terrible of a design. With some painted headlights and taillights, itd be awesome. Im digging this blue color along with the different tamps more than the race white or red versions.
I don't see the design issues either but I'm not an enthusiast. It looks like BMW the only that looks off to me if it is at all is the back looks squared a bit. I really like it and I'm not BMW guy. My favorite color for a BMW is always black.
I will rate this higher than the last two versions. Something about a dark blue M3 I really like. And the simplistic livery is just an added bonus. I would really like to see the first look on this one.
The colour is probably the best thing about it. Curiously the E30 model isn't great neither, compared to the superb 2002, but we should be grateful that HW have produced some European cars.
The casting is so damn rough! strip the paint and you'll see all the shitty stuffs.
