Here are the four more-current Mustang castings that are part of the 8-car 50th Anniversary set. Not too much to write home about here, outside of the ’07. It is rather strange to see three of the four later Mustang models are customized racing variations. Of course Mustang has a racing heritage, but that is trumped by the Mustang’s true heritage: a speedy street cruiser.
That is why, with a very strong lineup of current Mustang castings, like the Super Snake, Laguna Seca, and Shelby GT500, it is very odd to see what they chose to include. The Cobra has surely seen better days, and we would be fine with one of the custom racers along with one of the three models we mentioned previously. Don’t get us wrong, the ’12 and ’13 Customs look great in their respective decos, we are just baffled by the choice.
Oh well, at least we are keeping the ’07…

They should have used the 4th gen Mustang from '00 instead of that little flat cobra. Bah…but I do like the colors and using the gunmetal for the wheels looks nice on almost every cast. Wish they'd use it on the lace wheels too.
Keep in mind, that Cobra is actually a 1998, not a 2003. It was a First Edition in 1998.
That casting hasn't been right in a while, though. See how the driver's side is jacked up a bit behind the front wheel? I've seen several of these do that.

Now this is the group of Mustangs I'm talking about. Because I love the new. Maybe this would give an idea. Since Hot Wheels should make another Mustang model, that could replace that Cobra (Since I don't like that casting anymore), which could be the all-new 2015 Mustang.
Those others do look darn cool. The '07 Mustang, Custom '12 Mustang, '13 Mustang GT, WOW. Their decos fit a lot. But my most favorite of all is that Custom '12 Mustang. That flat black, the deco, shhhrricckk!

Some poor choices here in this set of part 2!! That 'obsolete' '98 Cobra – never was a great casting to begin with because it is flat looking and doesn't capture the rounded edges of the original production Cobra. What's with that popped-up front end? No '65 fastback, coupe or convertible? I know the '67 Shelby GT500 was used quite often, but it's one of the most brutal muscle cars.
The Super Snake and/or Laguna Seca would have been good choices. What about the '69 model? That could use a nice, new paint scheme to liven things up a bit. Oh well.. guess it has to lure the kiddies, as well as the collectors!
I've gotta say, this is the part of Mustangs with a heartbeat. I may not be a fan of some of the other Mustangs in part 1, but they do look great too as much as these ponies here.
All of em, '03 Cobra, '07 Mustang, Custom '12 Mustang, '13 Mustang, just keep on going. For me they're a hit because their decos look great. And dudes never get lost with performance. So Mustangs are the best of the best. I could see that.
My favorite? Ah, if someone ever asks that question it would be the Custom '12 Mustang. But it would be better if Hot Wheels adds a new Mustang casting, the upcoming all-new 2015 Mustang. Super heroic Mustang ever.
While that 2015 Mustang design looks like a Bentley Continental on the exterior. Except the grille and the rear lights designing.

This set does nothing for me. I have no desire to get any of them. I believe while honoring the 50th anniversary, Hot Wheels should have seen fit to honor their own brand's best and most-iconic Mustang castings. I think many of the modern Mustang castings look terrible. They just seem out of proportion.
A few choices from the list below would have made for a better set:

I still believe Mattel blew it by not honoring the 50th anniversary of the 911. Perhaps they tried and Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen said “no thanks.”
