A couple of years ago, when I was developing the Instagram Best of Tournaments for the Lamley Awards, I remember being on the phone with Glen Chou, the Director at Mini GT, telling him about what we were doing. I told him I was going to add a couple of Kaido House models to the 16-car Mini GT tournament. He said that made sense, but that it wouldn’t be too long before Kaido House would merit its own tournament.
Well here we are.
It took two years for the output to merit a tournament, but the significance to our hobby that Kaido House has quickly created makes this a no-brainer. For two reasons actually. Jun Imai has definitely stamped the hobby with his vision, creating unique castings with a very high quality. The passion that Kaido House collectors have for these puts them on planes flying all over for specific events, has them up at specific hours to try and cop a rare BLKLTD, and most likely has them making up stories to their significant other as to why another massive hole was created in their bank account on something that the statement only dubs “KH”. These passionate collectors deserve a tournament.
The other reason is while Kaido House is under the Mini GT umbrella, the brands are truly separated. Mini GT itself had a stellar year, diving deeper into exact replicas of current and classic cars, with a heavy emphasis on replicated race cars. That could not be more different than a Pro Street 510 or wide body R34. It doesn’t make sense to lump KH in with MGT anymore. So we aren’t.
So welcome to the first ever Kaido House tournament. Like all the Best of Tournaments, you will find this on the @lamleygroup Instagram Stories in 24-hour rounds, with the pairings drawn at random. Unlike the other tournaments, this will be an 8-car tournament.
So watch the video below, to see the seeding show, check out the photos, and then head to Instagram to vote.
