Matchbox MR2’s Spring vacation: On tour in New York

I periodically get tagged to show a #pocketcar on Instagram but I’m pretty terrible at remembering to take and post the pictures. When I was in New York for the auto show last week, I was able to meet up with my Lamley colleague Bryan (@beardedmugmedia) and he kindly gave me this Target-only Retro Matchbox Toyota MR2. It was already loose, so I figured, why not take some shots?

I had a day and a bit of free time before flying home so did some exploring in Manhattan and Brooklyn, dropping the MR2 into some snaps along the way. This isn’t a traditional Lamley post – many of you will already have this model, and the casting is no longer brand new – but I figured I’d share some of the images here, in case anyone’s interested!

First stop was a #lamleyburger with Bryan at 5 Napkins
Manhattan Motorcars. Possibly the first and only time a Matchbox MR2 will be photographed with a US$1.6-million Rimac Concept One
Pit stop in Chelsea Market. Mint choc chip, in case you’re wondering!
Back on the Subway in Greenwich Village
Trash talking in Dumbo (Down Under Manhattan Bridge Overpass), Brooklyn
Vintage sign in the NY Transit Museum, housed in a disused Subway station.
Worth a visit if you like your history and good value at $10
Final stop at the Gowanus Canal, Brooklyn

As you can see, this latest colour of the MR2 is pretty photogenic. Like Bryan, I think I prefer it to the debut white release. Home again, here are the two colours (both with headlights up) alongside the Made in Macau original.

Hope you enjoyed the pictures. Safe travels!
