Here are the Mattel-donated charity auction items for next week’s Matchbox Gathering of Friends. Which prototypes should I pursue?

This is always a blast.

The Matchbox Gathering of Friends is now one week away.  I am getting my Matchbox geek on in preparation, and I will be full-fledged into it by next week.

One of the events I look forward to most is the charity auction held on Saturday night after the Mattel presentation.  Tons of amazing lots are auctioned off, including quite a few rarities and prototypes donated by the Matchbox Team.

Those items have been donated, and I have photos below.  To bid, one must be present, unless of course one gets someone who is there to bid for them.

I always pick 2-3 Matchbox-donated to pursue, with the hope to come away with one.  Last year I was shut out, and we will see what happens this year.  If you were me, which three models would you bid on?

  1. You HAVE to bid on the wagon! The ambulance and the green police car should round out things nicely.

  2. If I were there I’d be going for SpaceShipTwo, the green Willys, and the Olds Vista Cruiser.

And I hope that the sale of the prototype means that they’ve decided to move forward with SpaceShipTwo again.

  3. I also like the rally truck (copper colored; make = ?) and the prototype Shelby? (zmac, beige slats and spoiler)

  4. Go all in on the Vista Cruiser. That one seems destined to come home with you. Ignore the others unless they come after.

I’m tempted by the Holden. I got a black Hot Wheels Holden Commodore prepro at the Dallas HW Convention auction and that one would make a really nice pair.
