Do you know your Japanese cars? Take the TLV Quiz!

IMG_1453

JDM YO!

We use the term a lot in the little car world, mostly erroneously.  But there is no doubt the diecast world has taught us a lot about Japanese cars, new and old.  But how much do you really know?  I’ve learned along the way, but still use very helpful references like Japanese Nostalgic Car and a ton of friends like (name drop alert!) Jeff Koch, Eric Bizek, Ben Hsu, and Jay Kho to learn a lot more.  It’s one of the joys of diecast collecting.  You may not know a car now, but you will when you favorite diecast company makes one.

So, here is a TLV Week Quiz.  I’ve posted a load of Tomica Limited Vintage models below, with absolutely no reference.  How many can you name?  No need to comment, unless you want to, and no prizes.  Just you and this quiz.  I’ll post the answers later.

Some are easy, others not so much.  (And I don’t know of any cheat sheets, so you are on your own.).  Ready?

Go.

  1. Despite having a version of most of these, I didn’t do so well. Of course I knew I wouldn’t because I frequently have to disassemble my display to get to the box so I can figure out what it is. You put an older Crown next to an older Gloria and I am pretty much stumped. I named about 3/4 of them without pausing to think.

  3. I thought I knew JDM fairly well, but I was stumped on many of these. Most are before my time. I did notice the lineup was very Datsun/Nissan heavy, followed by Toyota. Only 1 Honda in there, no Mazdas that I recognized and a few Mitsubishis.
