Time to walk through the upcoming 2017 Matchbox New Models. Through the end of this week and into next, we will showcase the photos that Matchbox allowed me to take while in Albuquerque for the Gathering.
Hopefully you were able to see the presentation last Saturday night on the Lamley Facebook Live feed. If not, definitely check it out. Most of the details about the models were presented there.
Here, we will basically show the photos we were able to take. Some of of the models are EP status, meaning the castings are complete, but without the color and deco we will most likely see. The others are SLA, or 3D prints. A lot can change on those over the development process, but you can basically see what is coming.
I am excited about what is coming. More licensed is always welcome, and there are quite a few. Originals, or unlicensed models, are inevitable, so my only request – and I think most of you share this – is that the originals look real. Less fantasy and more realism. I am not too concerned about the brand of an Arctic vehicle, just make it look like a real one. And I think the team accomplished that this year. There is a lot to like, and a lot MORE to like.
But we will start with two licensed models, and more specifically two classics. The ’51 Hudson Hornet Police and ’59 Brookwood Wagon are Matchbox no-brainers. Two that seem like they should have been made years ago. They fit wonderfully and naturally.
Two things of note, one from each model. The Hornet will have lights cast into the body instead of with the window piece. We will see how that looks on the finished model. The Brookwood sports the fantastic roof rack and canoe, which I personally love. Accessories are all the rage, and this works well. The roof piece is removable, and the extra piece also means the Brookwood will have no interior. We might even see additional roof pieces made. If so, I have plenty of ideas.

I drove a 1:1 Brookwood wagon when I was on high school. Can't wait for the MB finished product.

Super cool, but no interiors kill the fun for me.
looking forward to the real cars, the generics will as always be left on the shelf – ONE SMALL THING – When you take the pictures, can you take them nearer, there seems so much wasted space around the model, i would rather see model, not background, so when we blow up the picture you get a really good model, not acres of grey… other than that, CHP hornet by any chance ??????
So the canoe is detachable – but only with the other pile of luggage? Where's the play value in that? I hope that Mattel reconsiders this design. Keep the luggage in place and have a removable canoe. The kids will thank you for it.

No interior for the Chevy? I'd rather have an interior than a canoe, what is the reasoning behind this decision? Maistos have no interiors and they are cheaper…

That sounds like a bummer, no interior in the Chevy. But I wasn't really looking forward to that casting anyway, even with one.
But the Hudson looks dope. Even though I'm not that crazy about police cars.

Is the MAN number MB1032 of Hudson Hornet wrong? We've found that naumber on the base of the latest Ford Transit TV news truck. Could Mattel fix this issue before it is released? Thank you!
I guess I am in the minority here when I say the canoe attachment on the Chevy is a mistake! I would have preferred a smooth roof model with an interior. Play value question aside, its a cheap move on MBX part. An interior means more spent but also more profits as a 59 Chevy with an interior can be easily made in many different guises [police, airport taxi, ambulance] etc etc and price ranges; [wouldn't it look phenomenal in a BEST OF type series with white wall rubber tires and spring green paint!] With the canoe and no interior its future potential I feel is limited. Again its IMH2cO!

The vehicle I want, which has *never* been available as a 1:64 die cast or any kind of plastic model kit or any toy form, is the 1974-1978 Ford Mustang II notchback coupe. The hatchback has been made as a plastic model kit a few times and as a 1:64 die cast, but only with the chin and tail spoilers as the Cobra II.
