Confirmed: The final batch of Cool Classics will be a JDM lover’s paradise…

We can put our fears to rest.

A few months after Mattel made it seem that they were killing off the Cool Classics line two batches short, today they confirmed that the final batch, Batch L, is in fact on its way, and it will be a doozy for a lot of us.

The release of Batch K obviously was the best indicator that L was coming, but we had heard no specific confirmation from Mattel.  But now we have.  Slated for March, this is what is coming:

  • ’76 Chevy Chevette
  • 2010 Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake
  • Datsun 240Z
  • Datsun Bluebird 510
  • Subaru Brat
Yeah, those last three should grab your attention (doomus, you can continue to salivate over the first one).  Two Datsuns and a BRAT.  (Incidentally I think that was also the title of an 80’s movie starring Ted Danson, Tom Selleck, and Steve Guttenberg, but I can’t remember specifically.)

That means a plethora of those three castings in 2015.  The 510 in CC and Heritage, the BRAT in CC, Heritage, and the mainline (fingers crossed for a Super), and the 240Z in CC, Heritage, the mainline, and RLC.
You might need to put some money aside.

  1. Hahaha, love the Chevette casting!!
(No, seriously, I do. You all should have seen how excited I was when us RLC members were sneaked the Flying Customs release).

While the mixes were delayed, I am happy that Mattel and HWs are COMPLETING a series. This is hopefully a good sign that Heritage will be seen through at least for the first year, and hopefully a second.

And it is nice that the color for the Ford GT in the K mix will be used more than once (it is the color of the 240Z).

  2. Mattel baffels me. No quality control, no marketing stradegy and no public relations to know what is selling and what is not. That tempo on that 240 looks unfinished. I did quality control and i would have never let that leave the wherehouse.
Chevette is awesome especially as a hot rod as mich as the Pinto was. Nothing like a little car with a big motor. Hint there is an idea HW PINTO not Poison. Althogh loved that too….
