Happy Wagon Wednesday!
We have been meaning to showcase the Matchbox CTS Wagon for awhile now. The latest version was released in a 5-pack a couple of months ago, and we just haven’t gotten around to showing it.
Not that we don’t like it. The Cadillac CTS Wagon is one of our favorite Matchbox releases of the last few years, and it is even better paired with the CTS Coupe that was released a year after. What isn’t there to like? To us, the Cadillac CTS is one of our favorite current American cars, and major kudos to Cadillac for doing a wagon.
Wagons will always be cool, and the CTS was one of the coolest. They didn’t sell a ton, but don’t you get the feeling the CTS-V especially will a classic someday? If they weren’t already so expensive, I would seriously consider getting one. Most Americans for some reason don’t get the whole wagon thing like most folks worldwide, but we can’t think of a more perfect car than one with 556 horsepower, that can go 0 to 60 in 3.9 seconds, and can haul an Eames rocker home from the store. There are very few modern cars I would take over that.
But at least we have a Matchbox version. It isn’t the CTS-V, but it will do. The latest version in blue was a surprise. No one knew it was coming, but we are happy it did. Matchbox decided to make it part of the “Outdoor Sights” 5-pack, and we love that they added it as a normal family traveler as opposed to another logo unlicensed model. The blue is beautiful, and the 5-spokes sporty.
And when you put the blue together with the previous versions, you have a great little collection, especially if you put the Wagon and Coupe together. We hope to see more versions in the future, but this assortment is good as is.
So is the blue our favorite? Almost. The orange version with orange rims still takes the cake. Sharp and unique.
So yes, a few months late, but here is our submission to the joy that is Wagon Wednesday…

So it took you a month after I sent that message to post this article? I've been waiting for this post for what feels like eternity. Because, I honestly did not expect this version to be made and then be put in a 5 pack. It looks great in blue (as if I haven't said that before) and chrome 5 spoke wheels. Luckily it still has full front and rear tampos so well done there, Matchbox! But my favourite is the original red with beige interior. This blue comes in second. I only have the orange and white versions for now but I'm searching for the others as well. And still no luck on any version of the Coupe. Well, there's some hunting to do! I can't wait to get my hands on this 5 pack though!
The CTS was done because Caddilac was doing a hearse so they made a wagon version. Actually the hearse was first hey MB how about that one.lol. Was shocked when they did the the old caddy hearse.

it would be really good for someone high up at Mattel to answer some questions, like
1) You have some really great real cars/Trucks in your recent back catalogue, so why do you insist on bringing cheap, nasty plastic generics to the table, more and more each year.
2) IF it really is all about contracts with the manufacturers, then you need to be getting someone else in to negotiate, WHY is it that any new model of a real car/Truck to market, it disappears after a couple of years, when the actual real car is still being made.
3) Matchbox likes to make Multi packs, either 3, 5, 10 or more, so why cant you do a brand specific set, you have enough Cadillacs to so a 5 pack, Likewise Jaguar Land Rover, Ford, Chevy, and so on, collectors wold love these especially if they were in branded boxes.
4) Matchbox has proven that it will make a model, even if the general knowledge about it is not that widespread, the classic VW's are a case in point, and the Caddy Wagon, here, is another, we all know that the US Wagon market is nowhere near as big as it used to be, but they still go ahead and produce a small scale version, and it is brilliant, so why not use it more, instead of generics.
5) Matchbox has a huge back catalogue, so with the increase in models to 120, why cant they do batch of 80's or 90's cars, not actual cars from that era, but cars that Matchbox made in that era, like the Jaguar XJ6 (XJ40), MGA, Vauxhall/Opel Cavaliar/Vectra 2000 GSI and so on.
Just a few questions i would love to see matchbox answer, but again, the Caddy Wagon above is a great casting like the coupe and HW saloon, all together they are a great range.
The caddy hearse/Ambulance was/is a brilliant model, and I still to this day do not understand why all the controversy over it, it is a die cast toy car, hearses exist, people die and get carted around in them, so why complaint about it, it is the usual PC crown in the USA that likes to think they have teh right to dictate who makes what, well, NO, in the real world these things exist and i would prefer to see actual cars, ones that can be seen, so what right do you have to dictate what we, the buyer wants.
this is a general rant and not to John Nilsson, its just a response to his Hearse comment, and how he was shocked when MBX did it.
I am sure that TLG has a huge list of items to add in their timeline, and to make the site readable without making each day so big with releases, some items will get immediate release, due to the nature of the product and some will sit in the “to be posted when space” pile, I agree that the moel is really awesome and am pleased it has been added to the blog, however I am not fussed when they post things, as long as they are frequent and relevant. time has no meaning, unless your in the TARDIS then time means nothing and you can whizz about back and forth.
I was just pulling a joking, mate! Of course I know how busy John is and despite that he still finds time to treat us with new posts almost every 24 hours. I'm also aware about what should be posted when, and seeing how things are currently going on, Hot Wheels definitely has the higher priority than Matchbox so I am not surprised that a Matchbox new model is posted only after a Hot Wheels new model has been dealt with first.
I agree 100 percent. That was an awesome rendition. I wish they would keep doing them. Even military. Originally they were done so children had pride in the armed services, now they are taboo. I learned about wwii from the tanks that MB put out. Ridiculious that they censor everything now a days. I've built my own corener vans and crime scene units and their some of my favorite not just because their one of a kind but because their based on real vehicles.
