First Look: Hot Wheels Retro Entertainment Greased Lightning & ’68 Olds Cutlass Convertible…

Alright, you fans of the Greased Lightning, you owe me…

I have already spent an entire post explaining my hatred for all things “Grease”, and the Greased Lightning, this vehicular disaster, is no exception.

I don’t fault the Hot Wheels designers for this monstrosity, as they did a fantastic job from an execution standpoint.  And I am sure there are enough Grease fans out there to justify Mattel’s decision to make it, but oh man it is awful.  Awful!

But if you like it, pics are below.

The Olds?  I think it is a new casting, and I think it is from Beverly Hills Cop II, but I don’t have time to look.  That awful Greased Lightning with its evil grin keeps staring at me.  I’ve got the creeps.  Gotta run…

(Help Wheel Collectors rid themselves of this awful thing – and that decent Olds Cutlass – by buying them from their store…)

  1. The Cutlass is indeed a new casting, at least in tooling (I have a feeling it was derived from digital models of the 68 442 hardtop that already exists based on dimensions). A well done car. Just in this interpretation, IMO it's not worth the premium over Garage/Blvd price due to lil detail, if any at all, making this truly from Beverly Hills Cop. I had the same thoughts for the Simon and Simon Camaro, Brady Bunch Satellite Wagon, all 3 Ferraris, and a couple others.

The Greased Lightning… well… never seen the movie and don't intend to, but the casting is interesting.

  2. That Cutlass is a thing of beauty… One of my favorite Muscle Cars for sure, and it will perfectly compliment the Beverly Hills Cop Nova from the earlier releases. Seems like a good time to rewatch both movies, doesn't it?

As for the Greased Lightning, I second everything you said. Horrible car from a lousy movie. The Hot Wheels version is spot on, about as perfect as can ben, but when you recreate ugly you're gonna have ugly.

  3. Hahaha… a rare & interesting piece of writing about how much u hate a car..
to catch u writing how much u hate a diecast is much more difficult than catching $uper in the wild.
    keep up the good work
