Well we know Matchbox has moved away a bit from the classic car models. They throw us a bone occasionally, but the classic car models are not nearly as common in the lineup as they were a few years ago.
But the Matchbox team knows we collectors love our classics, so they decided to make the gift pack exclusives all classic cars to celebrate Matchbox’s 60th Anniversary. The models are a little different. In place of full tampos, there is a 60th logo along with the carmaker’s logo, placed in prominent spots like the hood.
The hood is where all the action is on the Miura. That is fine with me, as long as we see more versions in the future. And I think we will. This casting, one of current Hot Wheels designer Ryu Asada’s favorites when he was designing for Matchbox, is too pretty to ignore. Obviously, because it is a common belief that the 1:1 Miura is one of the most beautiful cars ever made (I completely agree), and any 1:64 that even somewhat resembles the real thing is bound to be a looker.
So it is nice to have an excuse to photograph all four versions of the Matchbox Lamborghini Miura together.
(If you don’t have one or all of these models, you should. Go to ebay to find them and you can even pick up the old Lesney version as well…)
Matchbox ’68 Lamborghini Miura P400 S (2013 Gift Pack exclusive):
With the green 2011 10-pack exclusive:
The family:
2011 yellow
2011 orange
2011 green (First Editions 10-pack)
this model is beautiful…i wish i had bought more of it, but i have had to turn to Maisto…I wish hot wheels makes a casting of this beatiful car. There seems to be one in the 100% line, but a mainline would be awesome…
So far the only ones i got are the yellow ones and the orange one. Still could use a green one. I'll be on the lookout for that one.
And to me, this is the still the prettiest Lamborghini of all-time. A lot of people say the Countach is, but as cool as it looks, it's not even close. I don't care who says otherwise.
The Miura might be the winner as far as classic Lambo's are concerned, but I believe the Countach takes it for the modern choice of favored Lambo design.
I wonder why MBX decided to drop the taillight detail from the 60th Anniv. model?
I love the metallic green paint, in fact I can't decide what I like better, the lime or the metallic… they both look great together. It does look fitting in the yellow though!
The Maisto version is like the Miura Concept that debuted a few years back – it has a unique yellow coat, but I wish the louvers were a flat black, instead of the monochromatic appearance.
It's insane to me people seem willing to buy the 60th Anniversary on ebay for far more than it'd cost them to buy the 9-pack with it included.
I love this casting. It's so well built, like virtually all MBX are. The paint is perfect, and the tampos flawless on any version i've ever seen. It's a nearly perfect toy car, rivaling the $upers of its “little” brother.
