I want candy! A song from 1965, making it 60 years old. Originally recorded by The Strangeloves, the song didn’t have much success by the original artist, except in Canada (number 7) and the USA (number 11). The UK saw a bigger appeal when recorded later by Brian Poole & The Tremeloes. Mind you, that was nothing compared to the huge success of New Wave artist Bow Wow Wow with it in 1981. We have also had covers by The Count Bishops, Candy Girls, Aaron Carter (brother of a Backstreet Boy) and Melanie C (ex-Spice Girl). It’s what I hear when I think of these particular Matchbox models. The Candy series. My own personal choice of song is the Bow Wow Wow version. When Matchbox first started the series, it was a 1-off set in 2019. Then, they did another 1-off set in 2020. 2024 saw the 2020 set return, and then a new set appear later. For 2025, we see many of the 2024 runs returning for a second or third outing, and sprinkled in are some new additions.
