New castings alert : please welcome the new GT-R R35 (and Top Secret) in the Inno64 family

Finally some news about Inno64! The diecast world has been all about novelties and announcements since the Tokyo Auto Salon and the Nuremberg Toy Fair in Germany. Let’s add that this is currently Chinese New Year with a traditional “slow down” on shipments and novelties in February. Perfect time to catch up some news and present you two new castings from my favorite 1/64 brand with the surprisingly super attractive Nissan GT-R R35 in both normal version and Top Secret version.

Speaking about Chinese New Year, the very first GT-R R35 from Inno64 is paying hommage to the Year of the Dragon with a very shiny gold version with an all red packaging. Very Chinese but I don’t know why, I love gold cars.

Inno64 wanted to tool the whole GT-R Family, as you probably know, and the R35 was a missing piece of the puzzle (the KPGC110 is coming very soon). I thought that it would be the very last car to be tooled but it is coming now. As far as I absolutely love the GTR-R35, my excitement wasn’t very high. We have been overloaded with GT-R and particularly R34 and R35 through years. I think it’s a duty service to have a R34 and R35 for any model maker. But …

Inno64 is late in the R35 game, but isn’t the best way to remind you that the R35 is a very cool car, and that Inno64 has the habit to make cars in a very particular way ? In fact, I love to be surprised and don’t expect anything in particular. The good surprise is even better. A gold R35 is not very my cup of tea but once again, the execution is making me like it, a lot. I’m particularly amazed by two details : first, the front grill is so fine that you can see the radiator under. Please also have a look at the quality of the silver part under the GT-R logo. Second, the quality and subtlety of the rims. Look at this! It’s so fine. It really makes the car.

While this R35, gold or not, is already a very hot and big sport car, now look at the Top Secret version. How bigger it is! Top Secret is a famous Japanese tuning company that has butchered the R35 in a pretty correct way, I think. It’s appreciable to see something different from LB and all. The satin gold of this famous Top Secret from a real car of Tokyo Auto Salon was the perfect thing for Inno to do. I assume that the mold has been modified, or a new one has been done, but the result is perfection. From the packaging to the car itself, it works. The large kit is really making the R35 looking even better. The special rims in grey (5 spokes) have been done perfectly such as the brakes disks and orange calipers. I also love the carbon touches and blue exhausts. The car is heavy and has a metal chassis (such as the gold R35 above).

Overall, the R35 from Inno64 is a very welcome model, in both forms. I appreciate the Top Secret even better. I know this Tokyo Auto Salon will be hard to find (for once, because Inno64 models are generally easy to find, special editions or not) and prices have already gone nuts. You can have a look at eBay prices here. Be sure other versions will come.

See you soon for more Inno64 reviews.

  1. Thanks for this! I just got the Chinese New Year edition and was completely gobsmacked by it! I actually share your observation that this feels really late in the game considering this car has been around since 2007, and everybody and his brother has produced their version of the R35 in that period of time, but in truth, Inno64 have somehow managed to make this model seem FRESH, which is a really rare thing these days for the R35. The Top Secret is a little more elusive (and expensive), but I would be happy to get my hands on one too! In any case, Inno64 has me hooked! I already have the T-Spec midnight purple of the stock R35 on pre-order!
