The 2020 Lamley Awards begin….NOW! Over the coming days, please enjoy our comprehensive look back at the Best and Worst of 2020

Welcome to the 2020 Lamley Awards! Our opportunity to look back at 2020, pick some of our favorite, and least favorite elements of the diecast year.

I’ve done this several years now. Have Lamley Readers/Viewers vote on a few topics, then compare those with my choices. It has always been an entertaining way to put the year to bed.

This year goes up a level, and I am super excited to share it with you. One of the coolest developments with Lamley this year is that I handed much of the Lamley Blog over to a fantastic group of contributors. Each of them come from different corners of the world, have different interests when it comes to 1/64, and do a fantastic job showing them.

As a result the content on the Lamley Blog has never been more diverse. A plethora of brands have been showcased, different eras highlighted, and deep corners of the hobby explored. I read the blog more as a fan than an editor now, and I have loved what each writer has brought.

With that in mind, I asked each one of Lamley’s contributors to create their own 2020 year-in-review with their own year end lists. Not only will the models showcased be different, but each writer’s approach their own as well. You might see a Top 10 1/64 Releases list, or a Top 10 acquisitions list. Each writer will contribute a feature, and I am just as excited to read them as I hope you are.

On top of that, I have asked some of our fellow collectors to contribute lists, and I will be sharing them as well. These features will all drop throughout December as we close out the year, starting with David Tilley’s Top 10 Matchbox feature today.

It will all culminate with the unveiling of Hot Wheels and Matchbox Best and Worst Models you voted on, as well as my choices. I also plan to showcase, here and on YouTube, all of my highlights of 2020, from all the brands I collect.

This is by far the most comprehensive Lamley Awards ever done, and I hope you enjoy reading these features as much as we enjoyed putting them together.

  1. This has been a great year to have the blog expanded. Given that has been happening this this a breath of fresh air. Let all the writers carry with great content in 2021

  2. Oh man, finally! Best of premium/super-premium, best of mid-range, best basic. In particular, I kinda wanna see more “single-car” reviews that cover the same car from different toymakers to see how well they fare.
