Lamley Daily: DUB City 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Model: 2000 Chevy Silverado extended cab

Line: Jada DUB City, 2001

Why it’s in my collection: Back in the early 2000s, DUB culture went full-on mainstream. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the term DUB, it’s the slang term for wheels 20 inches or larger — and there wasn’t a rapper alive who didn’t rock a set of DUBs on their car.

The DUB brand itself was founded in 2000, and still to this day remains one of the major players in the big wheel and lifestyle scene. DUB Magazine was a major publication and their branding was EVERYWHERE. From Big Tymers music videos to Pimp My Ride – big wheels were in. It’s actually wild to think that not that long ago, a 20 inch wheel was considered large. In fact, many factory cars today come with 20 inch wheels or larger. The iconic DUB machine itself, the Cadillac Escalade, even comes with a factory optional 22 inch wheel for 2020. Remember spinners? Spinners used to be everywhere too — I worked at a Buick/GMC/Pontiac dealer in the early 2000s, and we had a GMC Savannah conversion van roll in on a set of 20 inch Riddler spinners…..like I said, wild times indeed lol.

The DUB City line from Jada was a different story — nearly all their castings were nicely done and slammed to perfection. The DUB City line has to have some of the lowest 1/6x scale cars I have ever seen. The casting sits crazy low and rolls on big diameter 5-spoke chrome wheels wrapped in rubber tires. The body and chassis are metal, giving this model some serious heft.

It’s got great lines and sharp DUB graphics across both sides: they are large but not gaudy. This Silverado would fit in nicely at a Saturday night takeover in Sac town, or a Cars and Coffee meet in Miami. There is just something timeless about a slammed black truck over big chrome wheels — its got a certain unmistakable swagger about it.

Outside of the DUB logos, the truck has minimal tampos…but it works. It’s not covered in branding, or early 2000s tribal shapes – it’s just a good looking black truck.

The interior is detailed with a chrome steering wheel and molded dash and seats. The nice thing about the truck is that it has a screw base — which allowed me to disassemble and clean-up before these photos.

Overall this is a very solid take on an early 2000s Silverado and remains fairly affordable on eBay….but with how good this truck looks I don’t expect those prices to stay low forever 🏁
