Why it’s in my collection: The Maserati Gran Turismo is one of my bucket list cars to own in 1:1 scale, so of course I had to add one to the 1/64 collection…the only problem is that one didn’t exist until recently. The real life Gran Turismo came out a dozen years ago, so to only get a 1/64 version in 2019 is a fairly long time to wait. So you can imagine how pumped I was to find this obscure RMZ City version on eBay. I double-tapped that BIN button so hard, ha!
RMZ City is a brand I wasn’t familiar with, but they seem to have some nice castings. They have the Maserati of course, along with the new Aston Martin Vantage, a Dodge Demon, and several others. To me, the GT was a must-have, especially in that amazing blue color.
I know some 1/64th cars from China are unlicensed, but the Maserati (and other RMZs) seem to be licensed. There is a Maserati product sticker on the box as well – which is how this version of the car came: boxed.
The car is boxed “loose” and isn’t attached via the base, although there is a spot on the center of the chassis that looks like it should be mounted to something.
The car is pretty well done. The front grille is detailed, the headlights and tail lights are tampos, and the car seems to be scaled and sized perfectly.
I would compare the car to a Maisto or older Bburago car with generic wheels and black windows. I paid around $15ish dollars for it, which is a lot for a standard “mainline” car, but it’s the only way to get a 1/64 Gran Turismo, so it was an easy buy for me.

Agh, thanks – corrected. Even after reading multiple times somethings your eyes just gloss over, ha. What do you think of the car though?
RMZ are fairly easily available in India. I have seen this Maserati a few times along with its 1:36 scale counterpart, and also many other cool cars in both scales. My only problem is they’re rather expensive for what they offer. Over here they cost the same as a mainline Hot Wheels so unless you really, really want a particular car that no other brand makes, like this Maserati (and a few others), then the price is a bit unjustified. Nonetheless, it’s a nice model. I have a bunch of RMZs myself but recently haven’t bought any because of the reason I mentioned above and the distribution is a bit sketchy as of recent.
I also noticed on eBay that the cars are being mostly sold from countries outside the US – I didn’t see a single one for sale in the States (right now at least). I agree on the price point too, especially when compared to a mainline Hot Wheels. Even at the exaggerated cost, I’m glad to have one as the GT is such a beautiful car and real life and isn’t available in 1/64 outside of this model. I just recently purchased the RMZ Aston Martin Vantage in highlighter yellow, and due to the virus outbreak it won’t arrive until mid-May, but I’m excited to get it.
What other RMZ cars do you have? They are a pretty new brand to me, so I’d be interested in seeing what else they’ve released.
I have BMW M5 F10, BMW X6, VW Golf GTi mk6, Toyota 86, Nissan GT-R, Range Rover Sport, Porsche Panamera Turbo, Porsche 997 Turbo, Porsche 918 Spyder, Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera, Lamborghini Murcielago SV, Mercedes E63 AMG, Audi R8 V10 and Audi A5 Sportback. I actually got all of these many years back when the price was still half of a mainline HWs but sadly not anymore.
Some of the new models that they have/ are coming (apart from the ones you already mentioned above) include: Aventador SV, C63 AMG coupé, Corvette C7 Grand Sport, BMW 550i, 2020 Audi R8, 2019 Ford Mustang etc.
II have a green Lamborghini Gallardo from RMZ. I saw a ton of them in Ireland last year. If I remember correctly, that had an unusual pricing scheme where the current models were one price, then as they rotated in newer models, they would drop by a euro a year or something like that. I’m also curious about the mounting hole in the bottom- mine has one too.
I have a lot of the early RMZ models that came with clear windows and pull back motors. They were really well done and the price was low. Several of these came screwed to the base. But also these models come with their street scene buildings. I think they are screwed down on that. So everything gets the hole.
