One day – at least for me – in the books. Many have already been here for a few days. But I flew into Chicago this morning and have been the Westin Lombard experiencing the Hot Wheels Nationals Convention ever since. The first highlight was surely the dinner honoring Designer Manson Cheung.
Manson went through his career at Hot Wheels (did you know the MC5 wheels are named after him?) and his obsession with pop culture and icons like the Back to the Future DeLorean. He owns a DeLorean himself, and designed the Hot Wheels casting, so naturally it was the special model given to attendees.
The model, with its gullwing doors open, looks great in the package, but FAR better out. The body is brushed, and it has to be seen to be believed. So we opened one with Manson himself live after the dinner, and Designer Brendon Vetuskey joined in as well.

Another model that I will only ever see in pictures and videos but I’m glad it exists. This is arguably the best DMC they ever made.

What a gorgeous representation of a DeLorean! You can see just how much thought and detail went into this model. Would be a wonderful car to have in the collection, but I’ll just have to admire from the web.
