I saw these pics of several recent Hot Wheels basic castings wheel swapped with the new 6-spoke Real Riders. The customizer is Russ L. Crump, and he posted these pics on the Lamley Group Group (our Facebook Group you should join if you haven’t).
I really like the simplicity of wheel swaps, and these in particular because they show how great the 6-spokes are (I call them 6-spokes instead of TE37’s mainly because they aren’t TE37’s, only “inspired by”), and how nice they look on certain castings. My guess is many of these castings will see the 6-spokes at some point, and I hop they do. These look beautiful, especially that Z32.
Bring it on, Mattel, and thanks for sharing Russ!
I agree. The wheels are the only reason I bought the FnF cars.
John, I had a small stroke when I was trying to read this headline.
These wheels are great. I have one of the F&F Silvias on my desk at work and I can’t stop looking at the wheels. They are utter perfection when paired with an R34 Skyline. So far I don’t have anything that I want to take apart to steal them. Hopefully they start showing up with small tires in the Pop Culture line I can swipe.
“These wheel swaps show much fun is could be coming.”
Sounds like a bad Japanese-to-English translation.
On topic though, I agree. Those wheels look absolutely stunning.
These wheels look perfect on every car in the photos but my favourite has to be the 300ZX. I think it would look even better with the black 6 spokes from the R32 Skyline but I don’t know if Russ (or anyone) is daring enough to drill open one of those.
The chrome can be removed with oven cleaner with no harm to the plastic . It’s likely the plastic is black underneath.
I’ve drilled all of the F&F cars, and I bought the black R32s just for the wheels. They are grey stock, and the Silvia and R34 are chrome, but they absolutely do strip back to black plastic with a bath in Super Clean. Drill them all.
I need the 300zx with those wheels!
Those are cool wheel swaps. 👍
The wheels look best on the Datsun since the real one had them
I swapped a set onto the new Honda CRX.
Cool wheels indeed but I wish HW would sell them individually. I can’t bring myself to buy a $6 car just to cannibalize it for wheels.
I agree. Wish we could just buy them separately.
