Hot Wheels 83 Silverado fans, here is the upcoming HW Wall Display Exclusive

The Hot Wheels ’83 Silverado is one of those frenzy-causing Hot Wheels models.  I should create a list of models that make that exclusive list.  Off the top of my head, I think of the ’83 Silverado, 510 Wagon, ’55 Gasser, and maybe the 67 Camaro and Kool Kombi.  There are clearly others.  They are those models that collectors pick up in multiples because they feel they have to.  They are those models that then get shared on Instagram in said multiples, creating a get-nowhere-fast discussion with questions about “why do you need all those” with overarching statements about the state of the hobby, coupled with support statements from others about “don’t let the haters bother you, you be you!” while most chuckle a bit and move on.  I think the word “hype” gets thrown around too.

Repetitive round-and-round collector diatribes aside, these models have frenzy status mainly because they are pretty darn cool.  And that definitely applies to the ’83.  We have seen it released in a couple of store exclusive lines this year as well as Nationals, and it is dropping in Car Culture Shop Trucks now.  And there is another release coming, as previewed by Hot Wheels Designer Eric Han:

I like me a premium HW Racing 50th Anniversary Silverado.  I also like me a Hot Wheels Display Case.  I’m in.

  1. That new 1983 Chevy Silverado pickup truck in the hotwheels racing livery coming out is awesome. I will definitely be on the hunt for this one and I can’t wait to add it to my hotwheels collection.👍

  2. I’m a matchbox collector. But I do admire some of what hotwheels do. Loud in your face castings with hotwheels tampo. The logo is great, packaging eye catching. I also like the jap=am connection with datsun Nissan castings.

  3. Is it just me or does this look like a metal/metal w/ real riders model? Doesn’t really fit in with the rest of the 50th Race Team lineup. If it’s meant to be a more premium model it should at least match the Bone Shaker UC or Escort STH paint schemes

    1. It’s not a mainline Race Team model. It’s a separate premium release that they also did a HW livery on.

  4. I can dig it… clean & tasteful for HW’s logo livery. Wheels are a classic touch though.
I’ve been in and out, but will the display case be sold in stores or is it a HWC site exclusive deal? THX!

  5. Zorba – This is not meant to go with the 50th Anniversary Race Team series. There are no numbers on it, save for the 50th Anniversary Logo, whereas all the Race Team series cars for 2018 will have numbers. This is the original Race Team livery. Personally, I dig it. High gloss colors with a classic tampo on a classic casting.

Wheaterz – The display case will be sold through Walmart, not on HWC/RLC.

  6. It is the better looking one of the Silverados. Personally, I like the lifted version better and wish they’d give it a normal ride height version too. The lowrider version is ok but it’s not the best look for that era of truck (in my opinion). This paint scheme is one of the best yet, old school Race Team is a great pick for a 50th version.

For the life of me I still can’t figure out why anyone liked that HWC Series version with chrome/antifreeze SF and wide whitewalls RR deep wheels. It just looks goofy to me.
