You need to check out the new Tomica 4D line. Bring your 5-year-old self with you.

Tomica this week unveiled its new 4D line, due in October.  The models look like basic Tomica, with one major difference.  I’ll let this rad video demonstrate:

Push down on the car, it “starts”.  Via a speaker in the model, the engine revs and the car vibrates.  It then idles, and when pushed again the engine revs or horn beeps.  Roll the car and the motor hums.

Tomica debuted the line at the Tokyo Toy Show, and 829 Japan has a ton of details.

It looks like the line with start with a Nissan GT-R and Honda NSX, along with a police car (whaaaaaaaaa) and ambulance.

I know I am not the target audience, but dang, I’m gonna need one.

  1. Typical…outsource something you used to do with your own voice and give it to the robots.

    /sarcasm

In all seriousness though, this is a silly and inventive feature that makes me smile. No surprise that it’s coming from a quirky Japanese brand 😉

  2. They have the licenses, so I say they should do this for the European exotics they make. I’d buy cases of them. Authentic Audi V10, AMG V8 and Lamborghini V12 engine sound in 1:64, anyone? Pull-back motors too, please.
