Case Report: 2018 Hot Wheels US D Case

It is whatever falls off the truck.

Typically Hot Wheels releases the International cases first.  Because of that, Wheel Collectors orders the International cases to make the models available ASAP.  But this time, for whatever reason, the US cases were made available.  No complaints here.

So, as usual, the crew at Wheel Collectors snagged a case off the pallet at random and took pics of the contents for your review.  And of course all the models – including a few Super THs – are listed now:

So here it, 3-by-3:

Good case.  The notable new models?  The Cadillac, Mercedes, and recolor of the Corvette Z06.

And the Regular and Super THs?

I’ll get a Super Showcase up soon, along with a few more highlights.  And as always, give me your thoughts.

  1. Not to be nit picky, but that Jeep Wrangler is a bit of a suprize.
The Cadillac looks enticing. The return of the Coronet SuperBee is a neat add. Plus the return of The Twin Mill. Perfect for a 50th celebratory dash.

  2. I can’t WAIT to get my hands on the AMG GT3 and the ATS. A couple thoughts:

    – A different color for the DB5 would have been nice, considering we’ve seen that color before both in the mainline AND as a premium
    – The Mk. 2 VW GTI is a neat throwback surprise…my guess is that only the ice cream truck (“quick bite”) rivals that casting for age
    – I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Super treasure hunts just do not work in black. A lot of what makes Supers special is the Spectraflame paint, and it just doesn’t come through in black. Add in no head/taillight tampo on this one, and it makes for the rare licensed Super that I don’t care to find.

    1. The Mk.2 Golf was recast a few years ago. It’s been a Christmas card (in red) and a multipack exclusive (in white, with red windows). This isn’t the original casting.

      1. I know it’s been recast, but it’s still a very noticeably “senior” casting…if it’s been around in some form or another for that long, I consider it pretty old-school

  3. That stupid Hw logo really ruins the mercedes! What a shame. I usually use some mosquito cream to rub the stupid logo off…

  4. Some nice models here, but…

Does it seem odd that so many licensed models only have one piece in this case? 1 Aston, 1 Ford Raptor, 1 Ice Charger, 1 Golf Mk II, 1 Fairlady, 1 Honda City, 1 Mini, 1 Porsche 934.5, 1 K&N Ford F-150? This makes it extremely difficult to find these models especially when case C didn’t seem to get very wide release. And somehow we get 2 more of the same copper Fiat 500s that we’ve seen in the previous 3 cases.
