Model: Hot Wheels Nissan 180SX Type X

Line: 2015 Hot Wheels Basic Range (HW Workshop)

Where to get it: It is still hanging in some stores, but most likely now you need to look at ebay.

Why it’s in the collection: The 180SX remains one of the best castings Hot Wheels has done in the last few years.  Almost stock, with just enough mods to tip its hat to all 180SX fans.

The three versions released since this debut haven’t even come close to the good looks of this maroon version, and I hope we will see another less-is-more release soon.  But it will be very hard to top this one.

  1. This is the best 1996 Nissan 180SX type X they have made so far and it is awesome. I like it and I love it thumbs up.

  2. I do like this casting a lot, but I had to get two because the first one didn’t roll…that ride height doesn’t leave any room for error. The hit-and-miss build quality inherent in Mattel’s mainlines makes such a slammed stance a real gamble. Otherwise a fantastic model.

  3. He’s right about this Ruby Red one being the best one of all. I’ve got the black and white GReddy ones, they each do have their merits as drift cars, but the one with the Hotwheels Racing livery is just a big nope. It’s sad to see HW still throwing that garish livery on perfectly good cars.

    1. Sales of cars with that “garish” livery are aimed at kids, and they fund the versions you’re fond of. It’d be silly of Mattel to stop doing cars with what’s become an iconic livery.

  4. I have this one and I’ve always loved it. I want to attempt to remove the graphics from the dark blue one. I practiced on a Fiesta, it didn’t turn out too good.
