The Hot Wheels 2014 Rewards ’66 Super Nova waited for the perfect time to be released.

RLC Members received a long-awaited surprise last week.  The Rewards Model for the 2014 Redline Club Memberships finally arrived.

And that is not a typo.  The TWO-THOUSAND-FOURTEEN RLC Rewards model arrived.  And in case you forgot, it is 2017.

To say the the RLC has had some issues is an understatement.  But RLC members are painfully well aware of them.  Model after model has been delayed, and we are still waiting for quite a few.  Technically we are still in the 2015 Membership year.  Mattel is still working it out, and is saying it will be worth it, and all of us remain hopeful.  The RLC is in good hands, and I am confident the next few months should be pretty fun.

But there is no denying these problems have been frustrating.

So now that THAT has been acknowledged, let’s focus on the Rewards Model, the ’66 Super Nova Gasser.  Holy Moly, it is nice.  And for a car delayed three years, it sure picked a good time to hit.  My five arrived last Friday:

We are in a Gasser frenzy.  Demand for Gassers among collectors has never been higher.  The ’55 Bel Air is in high demand, as are previously released models like the Mercury Comet Cyclone, and ’63 Nova from the Drag Strip Demons line.

And that goes for the ’66 Super Nova.  The Super Nova has only been released once before, as an RLC exclusive in gorgeous GORGEOUS mirrored gunmetal.  This Rewards model is its second release, with a third RLC Selections model coming later this year.  So for a model delayed and delayed, it is crazy that it hits now.  Demand is high.

But most people that want them should be able to get them.  10200 were made based on the number of orders by members.  The Reward Model is made for RLC members to purchase with RLC points, which are awarded with every purchase during the year.  I had enough for five, so that is what I ordered.

And with multiples like that, it means there should be a good number hitting ebay, so if you want one, now is the time.

And it is worth.  Clean as clean can be, and super sharp with the white roof.  It looks good packaged, but even better opened.  Gasser fever ain’t going anywhere.

  1. Technically, the smoke/gunmetal Super Nova was not an RLC exclusive; it was an HWC exclusive. It was not an immediate sell out and didn't sell out until the holiday sale either that year it was offered or the following year.

  2. Man between this and the horrible HWC board overhaul (I'm still bitter about that), does anyone even go on HWC anymore? I probably haven't visited in over a year.

  3. I might be out of the loop, but I joined the HW's RLC the 1st time around the start of 2014. So my question.. who exactly received the '66 Gasser Nova and how?

  4. It was the 2014 Rewards car (see the front of the card) which means you could order it in around Oct 2014. It was not for sale. You had to use the rewards points that you accumulated throughout the year from your others purchases. 9 pts. got you a Super Nova gasser. If you had more points, you could order multiples.
