Lamley Awards Poll: What was the BEST Hot Wheels New Basic Model in 2013?

The Super and Treasure Hunts Poll was very interesting, but now we move on to what I think is the most interesting poll of all

What was the BEST Hot Wheels New Basic Model of 2013?

Hot Wheels gave us 50 New Models in the basic line this year, but instead of numbering them at the beginning of the checklist, they were interspersed among the entire lineup.  But wherever they ended being numbered, there was quite a bit of variety.  Of course there was the standard muscle and fantasy cars, but also a strong number JDM, European, classic, and other styles.

(In case you are wondering, we are not including the Toyota 2000GT in this list, even though the model debuted in the basic range.  It is not an official Hot Wheels New Model, as the casting was slated for release in 2012 in the Hot Wheels Racing line.)

So now is the time to vote for the model you think is best.  Remember, we are voting on the casting, not the actual tampo design, color, or deco.  We are showing the first releases of each model below to help refresh your memory.

Look to your right to see the poll in the sidebar, or follow this link:

The poll will be open through the Thanksgiving holiday for you voters in the US, and will close late Sunday.  So get your votes in now, and tell your friends!  We want to hear from collectors all over the world…

In case you are wondering, we are compiling all the votes, and will present each selection at the end of December.

  1. ARE YOU REALLY KIDDING! I voted for the Pagani Huayra, Mini Countryman Rally, Lotus Evora GT4, Loop Coupe (Which looks like a Hyundai Veloster), Toyota Supra, 12' Acura NSX concept, Ferrari F12berlinetta, Ducati Diavel, 70' Toyota Celica, Scion FR-S, 13' Ford Mustang GT, Porsche 918 spyder,14' Corvette Stingray C7 (My most favorite new model for 2013), Lamborghini Aventador J, 13' Chevy Camaro Hot Wheels Edition, and the 68' Shelby GT500.

  2. I voted for the Pagani Huayra alone. While the whole selection is sprinkled with amazing new models certain ones aren't quite right, the very poorly executed valances on the Lotus Evora (can you call them that when they're 2' off the ground???), the 918 where something didn't quite translate into 1:64, and the whole line of amazing, though predictable C7 Corvette etc.

This is why I chose the Pagani, it's a true departure from the expected, and executed perfectly. Now just try pronouncing it's name… H-U-A-Y-R-A.

  3. Can I give you some examples for your 2013 Lamley Awards?

OK, here are some 2013 Lamley Awards you should do for the next awards:

    1. 2013 Hot Wheels WORST new model
    2. 2013 Hot Wheels BEST pickup truck
    3. 2013 Hot Wheels WORST pickup truck
    4. 2013 Hot Wheels FAVORITE new model

or many others you would like to decide.

  4. HEY! I notice something. How did you get the 2014 Corvette Stingray in the 2013 packaging? Most collectors will find it in the 2014 card.

  5. cant these people stop voting the kool kombi? already i see some little flowers suronding the hotwheels logo. that is a sucker kool combi.

  6. I just voted the 70' Chevelle Chevy SS right now. It's because of its Gulf livery like the same on the Fast Fish in the regular TH line.

Anyways, that 14' Corvette Stingray C7 is my most favorite new model in the basic line. And how did you get the Stingray in the 2013 card? Huh? Like I said before, MOST collectors get it in the 2014 card.

And so, so, the Chevelle SS got my mind racing. I already collected bothe the Fast Fish and 70' Chevelle, and then compared it both. Lucky the Gulf livery wouldn't give me any problems. I'm just relaxing that the Chevelle is another nice Gulf livery for 2013.
And that Chevelle is trying to improve its livery for this year? HUH! HUH, YA! OK, that was too silly. But anyways again, I just wish there would be a newer 2014 model better than the 2013 new models. And it's my most favorite car ever (Just to let evry'one know, the 14' Corvette is my 2013 FAVORITE new model and…)!!! The 11' Dodge Charger MOPAR edition. Some people already should know the 11' Dodge Charger MOPAR model. Black w\ a blue stripe just a little further on the left. So hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!
Stunning. But anyways, my comment had nothing to do with voting, but sure do like talking with this thingy Charger favorite of mine.

OK, see y'all in the Lamley Group.

  7. I usually take best and worst lists with a grain of salt, since anything in regards to best and worst is quite subjective. But in this case, I will be a good sport and say that my favorites were the Pagani Huayra and the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta. I voted for the Huayra because, one; it was a little better executed, two; I love supercars, and the fact that when's the last time you saw, or ever see a Pagani in the HW line ever again?

However, I still have a special fondness for the F12. A few words though, they could have added the B-pillar into the windows, and I personally prefer the same size wheels on ferraris all around. But this casting turned out very well, and it faithfully mimics those seductive lines of the 1:1. It is also very fun to customize, i just finished my second one.

  8. OH, come on! What's wrong with these people always budding tuner cars?. So far only the 3 Japanese tuner vintages win all the time- which is the 70' Toyota Celica, Toyota 2000GT, and the Mazda RX-7. Why can't people exchange for voting for more new and faster cars, ex; Pagani Huayra, or something.

  9. The Toyota 2000GT was only picked for the BEST and WORST treasure hunt for 2013. It can only be decided to be in one awards. Or I may agree with you a little bit, but mostly he only decided to do it for the BEST and WORST treasure hunt instead of doing it for the new model. Maybe he didn't think of the 2000GT being in the 2013 new model awards of Hot Wheels. So maybe that's why.

So John, am I correct, or not? It doesn't matter if I'm still right or wrong.

  10. The Huayra seems to be getting the most votes, but I do not think it should win. It is a great looking model, but quality control was near-intolerable for the Huayra. I went to every single retailer I could and could not find with perfect tampos. Whenever I found one with perfect headlights and talights, the Pagani and Huayra tampos were off-place or blurry, and vice versa. Same for the black roof. The black paint for the roof would either be offset or not extensive enough, leaving some patches of red or gray behind(recall that the Huayra has been in red and silver). It annoyed the heck out me finding a good one for my collection. I had to compromise on a specific model I found. It had a perfect black roof and tailights but the headlights were off, and so were the Pagani and Huayra logos. I hated doing it, but the Huayra looks great in silver, so I had to have it in my collection. What's worse, when I opened the case and tried the car out on my desk, the front left and rear right wheels don't spin unless you press a little harder on the car. There's no smooth sailing. The axles are a bit off, I'm afraid. Very disappointed with the Huayra. The '12 Acura NSX concept, the Huayra's sister model, is a lot easier to tolerate, I'm afraid. Tampos aren't as bad, and it's not so hard to find a good model with all the details in the right place. Plus, they coast smoothly on a desk; all four wheels spin.

  11. At my Wal-Mart, I found the perfect Pagani Huayra that had good tempos and not-blurry saying
“Pagani Huayra”. Everyone can fine the Acura 12' NSX in a good transmission, and some collectors can't find the red Pagani Huayra in a perfect transmission. I already got 2 Q case Pagani Huayra recolors in silver in the 2013 card, and didn't have a perfect transmission. The 1st one was worst. It said “Pagani Huayra” blurry. And the tempos on both are really annoying me. But so I went back to Wal-Mart and got the Pagani in a 2014 card with a really good transmission. But actually, everyone should notice when they get the silver one of the Pagani, there is silver taillights instead of the red taillights, also annoying. And I found a variation with the silver one, RED taillights! In the 2013 card.

  12. Dude, quality control is shitty for any casting. Yeah I know it sucks, but it is what it is. I had tampos on one car that was off-center, tampos that were smeared all over the place, even some that were ripped in half. But then I found that same casting with tampos that were picture-perfect. I had a variety of other castings from the past five years that had the same problem, even your favorite casting, more than likely. So I do not think that the Huayra should be voted on any less just because the particular ones you found had a botched job. Personally I would take a Huayra with half-ass tampos, over a Kool Kombi with perfect tampos all day long, all night long. Just because I personally like the Huayra more.

  13. The Acura nsx along side the 2014 C7 vette . Whomever did the 86 should be fired. the car is so bloated its not even funny.
